About this cottage rental

Welcome to Whistlestop, a beautiful, dog friendly three bedroomed cottage in the charming village of Aldborough, which overlooks the village green and cricket pitch, and has a well renowned dog friendly pub, and well stocked village shop and Post Office just a few steps away.
Aldborough is one of Norfolk’s hidden gems, an attractive village with plenty of walks and cycle routes on your doorstep. Cricket is played on the green throughout summer, and there are a host of activities and shows to enjoy at Aldborough’s Community Centre throughout the year, just a minute’s walk away from the cottage.

Whistlestop is a characterful, dog friendly cottage built in 1886 which sleeps six people in three bedrooms. There is a fantastic village pub which serves food, a shop with Post Office, as well as a children's play area on the far side of the green, making the property perfect for a couples or family holiday. We welcome two dogs at no additional cost. There is off-road parking for one car on the front drive, and parking for two more cars on the back drive.

Outside, you'll find a fully secure, south-facing garden with table and chairs, and a small decking area with additional seating to follow the sun throughout the day. There's also a delightful summer house with electricity, offering another relaxing space. Cyclists can store their bikes in a lockable shed, which also houses a BBQ with charcoal. Please note that there is a pond in the garden, which, although small and shallow, should be monitored for safety, especially with children.

There are several supermarkets nearby: Waitrose and Sainsbury’s in North Walsham, Tesco in Aylsham (all within a 15-minute drive), and Morrisons in Cromer. All offer delivery services.

Whistlestop is well placed for exploring Norfolk. The popular resort of Cromer is just eight miles away, with its Folk Festival in May, carnival in August, and firework display on New Year’s Eve, as well as a variety of shows playing at the flourishing theatre on the pier, and also home to Amazona Zoo. Local National Trust properties to visit include Blickling Hall (the birthplace of Anne Boleyn), Felbrigg Hall and Sheringham Park. Pensthorpe Nature Reserve and the lovely Georgian town of Holt with its numerous independent shops, great food hall, cafe culture, antique shops and art galleries are also nearby. East Ruston Old Vicarage Garden is one of the finest privately owned gardens in England, and just fifteen miles away. Sandy picturesque beaches are easily accessible all along the coast, with resident seals at Blakeney Point, eighteen miles away, and the beautiful seaside town of Wells-next-the-sea just twenty two miles away. You can hire a boat for the day at Wroxham and explore the vast waterways of the famous Broads, or visit the beautiful city of Norwich, with its Cathedral, shops, and historic buildings, just 20 miles away. Railway lovers will enjoy Bure Valley Railway, Norfolk's longest narrow gauge steam railway which runs between the market town of Aylsham and the bustling Broads town of Wroxham, and whose coffee shop on Aylsham station, shares the name Whistlestop!

Weavers Way is a very scenic footpath which passes through Aldborough and several adjacent villages on its 61 mile route from Cromer Pier to Yarmouth Pier. Use is made of public footpaths, disused railway lines and some minor roads as it meanders around the county. It passes a number of fine flint churches, several large country houses, and a large number of wind-pumps.
