Hide hill ,2 bedroom central apartment

Fantastic apartment, very spacious, and very well equipped. Lovely lounge and dining area, great kitchen and bathroom. Two big bedrooms with lots of storage and hanging space and very comfortable beds. Easy to find and great location. Good value.

Nothing. The flat had not been cleaned upon our arrival. We could not get in touch with the owner. She wouldn't answer her phone. So I sent messages, photos and an email asking her to answer her phone and/or contact me. She later phoned and said she had lost it.

As the flat had not been cleaned, and could not get in touch with the owner, we had no choice but to find somewhere else to stay. The beds had not been changed, the toilet not cleaned, no clean towels, a smelly bin that had not been emptied, it was freezing cold as if the heating had not been on for a week, washing up in the sink and food on the side. We had travelled up from Essex to nearly Scotland and were tired, cold and hungry. We now had to find somewhere to stay - at 6pm at night. When we finally spoke to her, think it was around 7pm, she offered us a free stay next year with drinks provided we left a good review. She said she had 7 other flats but we had already sorted out our accommodation. Plus, Booking.com were not helpful at all. Said we couldn't cancel as a non-refundable booking. Which it was but we were not cancelling - the contract had been broken. Then said we could have a refund minus the taxes. Then line went dead.. 2.5 hours spent to trying to sort it out. The last agent said I wouldn't get back a penny as I threatened to take them to small claims court for my full refund. I have since emailed the CEO of Booking.com and have not had a reply. The whole experience puts me off using Booking.com - or recommending them. Things go wrong but at least be courteous enough to sort out problems which were not of our doing.

One of the mattresses is past its best & needs replacing. Our children slept on it was they’re light and we couldn’t sleep on it as it sagged so much. Sadly it was the same bedroom without blackout blinds (the other had them but had the better mattress). There was a problem with the bath mixer tap but the owner came to fix it whilst we were there. I pointed out the dreadfully mouldy washing machine and suggested they replace the seal. No dishwasher tablets meant I had to hand wash everything (we were only there for one night) The location wasn’t the quietest. Loud neighbours (appreciate you can’t prevent this). Lots of bin noise. They have industrial bins in the courtyard & bottles were being thrown into them late at night? (presume from a restaurant?) and early emptying by refuse collection. This accommodation was chosen for us by booking.com as our previous accommodation cancelled with less than 24hours notice! Shame I can’t leave them a review. Was grateful for this accommodation but I’m not sure I would have been happy paying the full price (booking.com paid the difference from our previous booking)

Location, spaciousness.

The mattress in the first bedroom (nearest the front door) was uneven on one side. Not keen on the decor - straw headed decorations and a dinosaur! But super clean and tidy, and kitchen well equipped.

Lovely apartment in an ideal location. Very clean and homely.
