Silver Fox Madarao

The family hosts were wonderful - so helpful. Beds were very comfy and the breakfasts were delicious. It’s a beautifully decorated B&B. Lovely location close to the ski lifts.

This recently renovated lodge has all the facilities you could need on a winter trip, including drying room, bath, lounge, cheap drinks and plenty of space. Many of the lodges I've stayed in before have limited bathroom/shower facilities, but this has more than enough for the number of rooms. Washing machine and dryer are available too. Importantly, the hosts are amazing, breakfast is the equivalent of what you would get in a high end cafe and the coffee is excellent. I would stay again for sure.

The only downside is it is slightly more expensive than many of the more traditional lodges in the area, but you get what you pay for. Also, if you're coming by car in the winter and there has been recent snowfall, you will likely need to park in the main parking lot for the ski resort if you have a 2WD (even with snow tires), as there is a small, but steep hill down to the lodge from the main road. 4WD would have no issue though.

We loved the Boutique feel, modern yet traditional decor and cosy atmosphere. Good sized room for three adults with the amenities just outside our door. We loved that it was small and intimate (about 7 rooms) which meant it was reasonably quiet most of the time. The hosts were amazing and went out of their way to answer all our questions, offer dining options, good tips for the slopes and attractions, spoke English and cooked a 5 star breakfast! The slopes were right across the road and short walking distance to numerous restaurants.

The pillows on the bed were too small. A few more for each person would be an easy fix as we think the pillows in Japan are generally small.

Modern clean beautiful spaces.

Felt like I was in someone’s house having to tip toe around the owner. Must’ve seen the guy 5 times every time I had to use the bathroom or whatnot. Also banged on the door at 10am for checkout when checkout was supposed to be 11:00 according to booking.com.
