Nature Kingdom Sri Lanka

Jayantha’s Nature Kingdom ist einer der inspirierendsten Orte in Sri Lanka, ein wahres Naturparadies im Dschungel. Jayantha, der Gastgeber, ist ein Visionär mit kreativen Ideen. Mit viel Erfahrung, Wissen und Herzblut hat er einen wunderbaren Ort der Begegnung geschaffen. Hier ist alles möglich, von Abenteuer bis Entspannung. Wir waren im Januar 2026 drei Tage zu dritt dort – eigentlich viel zu kurz für das, was der Ort alles zu bieten hat. Beim nächsten Mal bleiben wir bestimmt eine oder sogar zwei Wochen. Jayantha hat uns herzlich empfangen und uns zur Erfrischung gleich eine King Coconut serviert. Einfach köstlich. Anschliessend zeigte er uns die Anlage. Sie besteht aus einem zentralen Bereich mit Küche und gedeckter Terrasse. Daran angrenzend befindet sich eine grosszügige Werkstatt. Das Herzstück der Anlage bilden die vier Cabanas, die den Gästen als Unterkunft dienen. Die aus natürlichen Materialien von Hand gebauten Gebäude sind sehr komfortabel ausgestattet. Jede Cabana bietet einen grosszügigen Raum mit Bett, Tisch, Sitzgelegenheiten und Ablageflächen. Abgetrennt ist in jeder Cabana ein persönlicher Sanitärbereich mit Toilette und Dusche. Unsere Erwartungen wurden übertroffen. Alles ist gut eingerichtet, gepflegt und sehr sauber. Es fehlt an nichts. Der Bereich rund um die Cabanas wurde mit viel Liebe zum Detail gestaltet. Es gibt Liegeflächen, Sitzmöglichkeiten, Feuerstellen und viel Platz zum Entspannen. Auch Jogabegeisterte kommen nicht zu kurz: Matten stehen zur Verfügung, und geeignete Flächen sind auch für grössere Gruppen vorhanden. Das weitläufige Gelände des Nature Kingdom bietet viel zu entdecken: den Dschungel mit seiner vielfältigen Flora und Fauna, den nahegelegenen Hügelzug, den grossen See und die weitläufigen Pflanzungen. Wer Zeit und Lust hat, kann sogar bei der Ernte der reifen Früchte mithelfen. Langweilig wird es hier keinesfalls. Jayantha ist nicht nur Visionär und Macher, sondern auch einer der besten Köche des Landes.

My stay at Jayantha’s “Nature Kingdom” was truly unique. He owns a large piece of land surrounded by wild jungle and a beautiful natural landscape filled with wildlife that almost feels like Africa. The setting is peaceful, spacious, and deeply connected to nature. The bungalow is handmade from wood and natural materials, built by himself over seven years. It has a special rustic charm and very good energy. For me, this journey became a personal retreat — a time to slow down, reconnect with nature, and feel my body, mind, and soul come back into balance. On arrival, he offered me fresh coconut, and in the morning I enjoyed healthy porridge and delicious homemade curry cooked with ingredients from the land. The food was fresh, natural, and prepared with care. Practicing yoga and meditation in the jungle, with fire and candles at night, was a truly memorable experience. The cats and dogs around the property are friendly and comforting, adding to the warm atmosphere. Jayantha is passionate and hardworking, with big dreams for this place. He has deep knowledge of herbs, gardening, and self-sufficient living. With 22 years of experience as a chef, he is an excellent cook. His life story — how he built this land and created his own “kingdom” — is interesting and inspiring. He is kind-hearted and generous in sharing both his space and his vision. At the same time, the property is remote and truly in the wild. I saw peacocks outside my window, buffalo grazing nearby, many birds, and even elephants while hiking in the jungle. At night, you may hear elephants moving. The land is protected with an electric fence, which provides a sense of safety. This is not a typical hotel or luxury retreat — it is more like staying inside someone’s personal dream project. You need to feel comfortable with a simple, nature-based lifestyle. However, the bed is comfortable, with a good mattress and clean, good-quality bedsheets.

For future guests: the place is about 45mins drive from town, and it’s accessible by bus. The host can pick you up along the road, and when you leave, he drops you off so you can catch the bus to town.

My partner and I had the most amazing experience while visiting Nature Kingdom The resort is located in a beautiful area with lots of wildlife, which we really enjoyed observing in such a peaceful setting. During our stay, we saw monkeys, water buffalo, rare birds like the kingfisher, and we even spotted one of Sri Lanka’s big cats—the fishing cat—hunting for fish in the lake at the resort. The facilities are also a highlight. The owner has built them himself and has done an incredible job, I must say. The cabanas are very cosy and clean. Staying in a cabana in the middle of the jungle is truly a special experience. There are also plenty of activities to enjoy at the resort. We took part in an agricultural activity where we got to experience what it's like to work in a Sri Lankan field, learn about the organic practices they use, and pick our own papaya fruit straight from the tree. We also harvested beans from the plantation, which we later used in a cooking class with the host. To pick, cook, and eat food grown on the land where you're staying was really something unique and meaningful. We are so happy that we chose to visit Nature Kingdom and would recommend it to anyone. It’s a truly amazing place, and the people who live and work there make it even more special. This is an experience that’s completely different from a typical tourist trip.

This place was the highlight of our trip, the food was all included and the best food we had in Sri Lanka. It has been developed by one, most enterprising and capable man, with a small band of helpers. All the excellent food here is produced on the agricultural holding, which runs to 100 acres or more, and includes a large lake. Wild Peacocks live here, in a place that combines nature with food production. You will be treated like Royalty, and living in a mud hut with civilised shower and toilet, comfortable netted four-poster bed, is an experience of a lifetime! Udawalawe national park is only about 30mins away, and this is a great place to stay tucked away in nature when visiting.
