The room itself was fantastic - walls were a warm terra cotta color with geometrically pleasing rounded shapes, a separate toilet (WC), a hot modern, enclosed shower with good pressure, nice amenities, a large sink area, and overhead pin lighting (no lamps), a fan, A/C, and a small balcony with a sliding door that opened, and a bench to sit on and also put your luggage. It was decorated beautifully with old wooden shelves - looked like it was taken from an old wooden structure - and it had a view over the town, where we enjoyed watching the sunset. The owner upgraded our room for free; we were in room 11 - highly recommended. The bed and bedding were very comfortable. Someone obviously put some architectural expertise and innovation into this building, both interior and exterior. The locals were friendly (see below). And a woman making Kim Chee on the street insisted we try it and took photos of us. We were obviously an oddity in town, and we all smiled and laughed. Kindness of strangers is priceless.

I mistakingly was led to believe there was an attached restaurant. There was not. We found no restaurants nearby, so we went to bed hungry! After 4:30 pm, we could not find any staff or receptionist on duty, so there was no one to ask or use google translate on, re finding food. We walked to the main supermarket in town, but there was nothing edible - not even real chocolate (they had some fake "chocolate" candy that was awful), grape wine that had been sitting on the shelf for a while, nothing except the packaged noodle soups and crackers which we didn't want. The shop owner wanted a selfie with us though, and a woman selling fruit gave us some pomelo, which was very sweet of her. The hotel entrance could use some clean up and decoration, as when we first pulled up, we didn't even know it was a hotel. The main areas looked deserted, like they had seen better times, and needed a good cleaning. We asked for hot black coffee via google translate from a kind staff member in the morning, but got cold sweet coffee. Oh well. The whole place looks like it has seen better days, except for our room, which was fantastic.

The staff here were super accommodating and made sure I understood everything via translation apps. The room heater works well, the bed was comfortable with nice pillows and comforter. I had dinner here and they put me in a private dining room because there was a large event happening in the restaurant. The room was cute with nice amenities, but as an Architect, the layout and function were lacking. There is no closet or hooks to hang up clothing. There are hangers in the shower, but your clothes would get wet. The heater worked well, but is not pointed at the bed so it leaves cold spots in the room. I’m whining about small things. Overall it was good and I was happy to get a warm shower, but the hot water didn’t last very long. The rice field view from the balcony was nice.
