Vientiane Ruby Riverside Hotel

The terrace view during sunset is LEGENDARY! 🌅✨ Sleep pods were mega comfy and super clean! 🛏️ Staff treated us like royalty and helped with all transport details! 🚌 BEST VALUE IN TOWN FOR SURE!! 🎉🎉

I arrived in Vientiane after an exhausting 12-hour bus ride from Luang Prabang, completely drained and honestly expecting just a bare-minimum bed to crash on. When I got to Vientiane Ruby Backpackers Hostel, I had a slight panic moment-I mistakenly locked my daypack inside the locker with my own padlock and forgot the combination! I walked down to reception feeling completely helpless. The staff could not have been sweeter. The guy at the front desk calmly smiled, grabbed a tool from the back, and helped me reset/pop it open within two minutes without making me feel awkward at all. After that shaky start, everything was smooth sailing. The sleep pod was surprisingly private with a super thick mattress and strong AC, which was a lifesaver in the Lao heat. Later that afternoon, I went up to the terrace, grabbed a cold Beerlao, and watched the sunset over the city-hands down the highlight of my stay! Met three amazing people by the foosball table that evening and we ended up getting street food together by the Mekong. It really felt like a hotel-level service with a warm, genuine community vibe.

Decent Hostel. Value for money !!

The beds were really comfy, new mattresses. There was space in the rooms, relatively clean and good location.

The hotel was having organisational issues. Our room was not available for the first night so they put us in another available room (we ordered standard double and they put us in the king room as it was available). We then had to change rooms the following the day, despite there being availability (no booking) in the room we were in. If it was booked I could understand however moving rooms is not ideal (you have to wait for the room to be cleaned before moving into the new room so it cuts into your day and your plans to explore the city). It would have made much more sense to keep us where we were , especially as it was their mistake for messing up the booking. There were no apologies for making us move rooms/not having room available which we had booked. Not very good customer service. Not very friendly or accountable people who were running the hotel. Also their were leaks in the bathrooms which kept us up. We have been travelling Asia for 2 months and have not experienced bad customer service like this. Staff haven't been this unfriendly.
