Cornish country house by the coast near Fowey

Fabulously appointed rural cottage with idyllic views over the Cornish fields; the view from the garden is especially breathtaking! We absolutely loved sitting out to eat our meals in the wonderfully sunny garden which caught the sun all day long until the late evening. The cottage itself is typically Cornish with lots of beautiful wooden furniture, floors and beams, and was very well equipped with everything you could need on holiday including soap and showergel, tea and coffee, cleaning products, hangers in the wardrobes, towels even beach-towels, washing machine and dishwasher. The beds (two doubles and a single) were super comfortable too and the cottage felt the perfect size for 4 or 5 people. The host Angela couldn't have been more responsive, helpful and friendly too. We had a wonderful stay and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the coastline and beaches, both that side of the bay, and the Fowey side via the adorable little 10 minute ferry across the bay. You can walk from the cottage to the cute little coastal village of Polruan and its perfectly picturesque harbour in 15-20 minutes (slightly longer on the way back of course uphill!) or drive to Polruan carpark and walk down in less than 10 minutes. We thoroughly recommend everything about Angela's cottage - we will be back!

Great host. Very tidy house with everything you could need in it (Cooking equipment, a hair dryer, towles, a washing machine). The beds ARE comfortable and well made but I have marked them down on account of the fact that the one in the master bedroom has a headboard at each end meaning someone nearly 2 meters tall gets a cramped nights sleep.

The shower water pressure was heroically low, to the extent that if you are 2 meters tall and trying to get the water over your head, you will be lucky to get a flow rate of 1 litre a minute. I feel this could be solved fairly easily given that the water pressure on every other outlet (Bath, Sink, Toilet, Bidet, Kitchen Sink and Scullary sink) is perfectly adequate. Its not a major issue given the location and the type of holiday but I am mentioning it anyway. Its also worth noting that there is zero acustic insulation meaning that everyone can hear everything from everywhere. Again, not a problem but worth knowing about to manage expectations.

We had a lovely 5 night break. A lovely property with real historic charm. Converted from a barn, the house is comfortable and has everything you need for a stay in Cornwall. Angela the owner was friendly and was no more than a text away if we needed anything. Located close to Polruan it’s a great base for exploring Fowey, Looe, Polperro etc. Lantic Bay viewpoint and beach are nearby too. We went to the Eden Project just 30 mins away which we recommend. Thank you Angela for a lovely stay.

Nothing really, the shower cubicle is quite small but was fine. The stairs are wooden, so just be careful coming up and down them. We did experience a rather large spider in the Belfast sink one morning, all part of being in the countryside. I eventually plucked up the courage to remove Henrietta to a more suitable location in the garden! The road to the house is typically Cornish, narrow with high hedges and is single track. This is all part of the charm, take your time driving and all will be fine.

The location of the cottage was excellent, very tranquil, overlooking fields, yet only a short walk into Polruan, where a ferry takes you across to Fowey for multiple eateries and things to do. The coastal path is reachable by foot from the house in 10 minutes or so for some lovely walks. Angela was an excellent host.

It's quite a hilly location, very steep back from Polruan and the coastal path so although that didn't bother me, it's worth noting when considering your stay.
