About this house rental

The McCormick Cabin at Osceola Mill
A Historic Creekside Retreat on the Blue Ridge

Some places are just a place to sleep. This is not one of those places.

The McCormick Cabin was built in 1873 on the grounds of Osceola Mill - one of only two surviving mills from the seven that once powered life along Marl Creek in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. The other is the McCormick Farm Mill, part of the same original McCormick Estate that revolutionized American agriculture. You're not just staying somewhere scenic. You're staying somewhere that shaped history.
The cabin's centerpiece is a massive stone fireplace - original to the 1873 structure - with the historic mill grinding stone inlaid into its exterior. It's the kind of detail that stops you mid-sentence. Beside it sits a private soaking tub, because some contrasts are worth leaning into: 150 years of working history, and a long, unhurried soak while the fire crackles beside you.

The Cabin
At 464 square feet, this is a cozy, intentional space - designed for two people who want to be present with each other and the landscape around them. A king-size bed, full-size pull-out sofa, and open living area give you comfort without clutter. The full private bathroom with standing shower handles the practicalities. A mini-fridge, microwave, coffee, tea, bottled water, linens, and toiletries mean you arrive and settle in - nothing more to think about.

Step onto the porch and you're immediately above Marl Creek. Pull up an Adirondack chair at the fire pit, light a fire, and let the sound of the water take over. Evenings here tend to stretch longer than planned.

The Property
Osceola Mill has been welcoming guests for nearly 50 years. Named after Seminole leader Chief Osceola, the mill still stands anchored by its massive hand-hewn chestnut beams and a steel Fitz water wheel - a later replacement for the original wooden one - that still turns heads today even though it no longer grinds grain. The Brubaker family ran the mill for decades until Hurricane Camille's 1969 floods ended the milling era. Rather than fade into history, the property reinvented itself - first as a home, then as the historic inn and retreat it is today.

The whole property sits at 352 Tye River Turnpike in Vesuvius, Virginia, cradled in the Blue Ridge Mountains with the Blue Ridge Parkway just minutes away.

Your Blue Ridge Basecamp
The cabin sits right along Tye River Turnpike - easy to find, easy to reach - with the Blue Ridge Parkway practically at the end of the drive. World-class hiking, cycling, and some of the most scenic open road in America are all within minutes. You should know the cabin is close to the road and you may hear passing traffic during the day. Most guests tell us that by the time the fire pit is going and Marl Creek settles into the background, the road becomes the last thing on their mind.
Come for the mountains. Stay for the history. Leave a little more restored than when you arrived.

The McCormick Cabin is a self-contained, private retreat. No B&B services are included with this listing.
