However, our experience was affected by how the host managed the space and the interaction. Most kitchen cabinets were locked, and we had trouble finding basic cooking utensils, pots were oddly stored in cabinets behind the sofa. We’ve stayed in many places around the world, but this level of restriction is something we’ve never encountered before. There was a strong smell of dog waste in the living room upon arrival, and we had to move sofa cushions and carpet to balcony, and clean the space ourselves. The host removed them at the following day and never returned them during our stay. After we checked out, the host claimed that a jacket and a basket were missing, which felt unfair and uncalled for, especially considering we paid R34,100 for one week. The home itself has great potential, but the host needs to be more transparent, organized, and trusting toward guests to provide a truly welcoming experience.
