English OK and 1 Group per day Kusatsu Onsen Ichiju

The stay exceeded all of my expectations and convinced me to only stay at ryokans for the rest of my travels in Japan. I arrived late, around 10pm and the host surprised me by waiting and the bus station and walking me to the ryokan. The ryokan is in the perfect location, it’s walkable to absolutely everything in Kusatsu and half the price of the larger lodging options on the same area. I was a little nervous about the traditional shikibuton (floor bed) but it was so comfortable! I slept fantastic each night and ate some of the best meals of my life at this ryokan! Not only did I have a traditional Japanese stay, I also enjoyed chef quality meals both mornings. Although the ryokan does not have its own onsen, I was provided with a free ticket to visit three of the most beautiful onsen in town. Would stay here again and recommend to everyone.

The property has no shower or bath option, you’re required to bathe at a local onsen. That said, it added to the charm of the town.

Amazing owners - super welcoming, great English & they even accommodated to my dietary requirements for the breakfast. The accommodation was spacious and so cosy too!

When people say 10/10 breakfast, they are not joking. I didn't even eat for the rest of the day. Delicious, well balanced, and yuuuummy. The entire upstairs was mine and I had a bedroom, a sitting area, a vanity area and then a room just for breakfast. It is at most a 4-5 minute walk from the heart of the city but SO QUIET! Off the main road and it doesn't seem to have any lively businesses around it. The

My one **singular** complaint is that the bedroom becomes a light tunnel at 5 am with the sunrise. They have the shoji (paper) curtains and it keeps out zero light. If you don't mind or don't wake up easily, that's fine... But I was awake from 5 am and was not so pleased.....
