Friendly welcome and staff, room not up to standard but could easily be updated.
The staff were friendly, it was easy to park, the pub and restaurant were very nice. The room was warm and welcoming and a nice size.
Whilst the room was warm and welcoming once inside it didn’t feel very clean. The radiator in the bathroom was yellowing, the pot on the sink had toothpaste stains on the bottom, the container for shower gel was empty. The carpet wasn’t carpet I wanted to walk on with bare feet. The pillows on the bed were uncomfortable. There is lots of room for improvement and could easily be a really lovely room.

I think the star rating is exaggerated.
Location was good, staff pleasant. The room is an old timber framed room with a bathroom up a couple of steps under a low opening.
It wasn't clear that breakfast would consist of a basket in my room with packets of Rice crisps, nothing else on offer apart from a Croissant in cellophane, no butter or jam. No comfy chair to sit in. Wifi didn't work in the room at all but did in the bar. The music from the bar area was quite noisy. The wiring and lighting was bit odd. The extract fan in the bathroom didn't work and the window had no stay. The bathroom door didn't shut.

Nice room bit noisy
The room was nicely decorated and the bed was comfortable. The staff were friendly. Easy to park outside.
The room is located right above the pub so you can hear the music playing and people talking pretty clearly. This did stop fairly early around 9:30/10:00 pm. The WiFi was also pretty hit and miss.

Comfortable stay in an updated historic building with staff who went beyond the call of duty for us.
This historic pub and hotel is right in the centre of this beautiful Suffolk village. It reopened last year and now doubles as an upmarket burger restaurant. The building’s historic features have been preserved but with a rock-and-roll themed decor update. We did not dine there but asked if we could get a small plate of cheese on returning from a local event at 9.30pm. The kitchen had already closed but the chef was sitting at the bar after his shift and he volunteered to prepare that for us and brought out a huge helping of cheddar and chutney. This was very much appreciated and we of course bought him a drink. Our room was spacious with quirky decor and a very large and comfortable bed. We knew it advance that breakfast at the George is limited to cereals with fresh milk (stored in a tiny table-top fridge in the room) so we brought along our own fresh fruit plus bread and butter. There is also a kettle and a coffee machine with teabags and capsules.
No sugar to put in the coffee. Probably a one-off oversight.

we would stay here again
We arrived early and had booked an early check in, however the rooms were not ready, but the staff were very efficient in being able to help us.

A meagre place to sleep.
The staff was kind and helpful. And we needed a place to sleep in that location, so happy it is there.
The shower did not work: temperature was far too hot, and just a trickle. (But it was a bath, so the solution was to fill the bath, which worked.) The room was not clean. Sticky surfaces, lots of dust. The breakfast, ready in the room, consisted of a croissant in plastic, milk and müsli. The window blinds were old and could not be closed, so at night it's light.
