Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Our favorite room in the house was the screened in porch. When it rained, we could still be out there and the view of the marsh with oyster beds watching the tides go in and out was wonderful. Great Egrets visited frequently and some snowy egrets, plovers, curlews and of course sea gulls also visited. There are snails and fiddler crabs in the boggy area as well. Very peaceful to sit and breathe in the sea air.The house itself is a piece of history, and the furniture, décor and art reflect this old fishing home, which is decorated very tastefully. The window at the kitchen sink looks out to the marsh and you can imagine the fisherman’s wife looking out there back in the day and enjoying that beautiful sunset. We have a larger and not agile dog, so we monitored her on the stairs. The owners informed us that there is a busy road in front of the house. We take our dogs out on leash all the time, so this didn’t bother me. However, if a dog got off leash, this would be a concern. The screened area has a door to the back yard (not fenced), so we took the dogs out on leash that way unless we were all going for a walk or ride in the car and then went out the front door to ensure the home was locked. You can hear the traffic, but I focused more on the sounds of nature and didn’t have a problem with it. There are wooden decks going over the marsh areas on both sides of the street, which was a nice place to walk the dogs in addition to walking down some neighboring community streets.Although the home is older, it is tastefully updated to be modern with a nice shower and the modern conveniences one would want. The home was clean and only a short drive to area sights, shopping and beaches. We greatly enjoyed our peaceful stay at Sunset Cottage on Calico Creek.

The photos are deceiving. While the cottage itself is comfy and cozy, it sits directly on a busy street with constant traffic — day and night, without pause. Any hope of a peaceful sunset or a quiet moment outside is completely overshadowed by the noise and movement of passing cars.There is no beach access, and the kayak launch requires hauling equipment nearly 2 miles away, making water activities far more effort than advertised. A simple stroll or sitting outside to enjoy the scenery simply isn’t possible given the location.For the price, this property falls well short of expectations. If you’re looking for a tranquil retreat, look elsewhere.
