Hooksiel is right on the sea and offers great walking routes along the dike, delicious restaurants for dinner, and fantastic recreational activities for the whole family. Our “Meeresleuchten” vacation home is situated in a wonderfully secluded rural location among meadows and fields, offering absolute peace and relaxation. The dike and the Wadden Sea are just a few hundred meters away—an easy walk. Up to 8 people can stay together in our 106-square-meter “Meeresleuchten” vacation home, where you’ll find everything you need in this fully equipped property. You can park 2 cars in the private parking lot directly in front of the house.

Hooksiel
The historic sluice town of Hooksiel in Wangerland on the North Sea offers a beautiful setting for your vacation. Experience the maritime atmosphere at the Old Harbor with its historic warehouses or on the expansive beach, which offers space for dogs, nude sunbathers, and all other beachgoers. Water sports enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy in Hooksiel. On the Hooksmeer and the North Sea, there are plenty of opportunities to surf, kiteboard, sail, or water-ski. Those who prefer less action-packed water activities can truly enjoy the sea on a boat tour. Or you can simply watch a few ships and boats at the outer harbor and the lock, eat a fish sandwich, and return home in the evening to your vacation rental or campground.

A NORTH SEA GEM WITH MANY ATTRACTIONS
Rich in tradition yet modern, this charming combination defines Hooksiel, a beautiful sluice town in Wangerland on the North Sea. The seafaring and fishing traditions of this seaside resort on Lower Saxony’s Wadden Sea date back over 700 years. Visitors can feel this at every turn, yet still enjoy the charms of a contemporary vacation destination. For example, on the seaward side of the Hooksmeer, along the dike, there is an approximately four-kilometer-long fine-sand beach that invites you to take a stroll. In addition to the popular kitesurfing spot with a kitesurfing school and a beach sauna, Hooksiel—with its just under 2,000 residents—offers plenty of beach fun.

If you bring your binoculars, you can spot sailing yachts, traditional sailing ships, and large container ships from the dike as they make their way to the JadeWeserPort in Wilhelmshaven. A few meters further on is the outer harbor, a bustling place: When the fishermen arrive with their cutters, you can buy fish fresh from the catch right off the boat. You can savor your favorite fish at one of the nearby seafood restaurants, and of course, no proper harbor tour is complete without a delicious fish sandwich to go and a cold Jever Pilsener to wash it down.

It’s just a few steps from the harbor to the tide-independent Hooksiel lock, which opens its gates hourly in the summer (lock schedule). About two and a half kilometers inland up the Hooksmeer lies the Hooksiel Marina, one of the seven harbors in the Hooksmeer. Spacious berths, a modern restroom facility, and a playground for little sailors are just a few of the amenities on offer. Not only does the North Sea offer reliable winds, but the marina is also the ideal starting point for sailing trips to the Wadden Sea, the East Frisian Islands, Heligoland, and the Jadebusen. Regardless of the tides, water sports can be enjoyed on Lake Hooksmeer without being affected by the ebb and flow of the tides: surfing, sailing, water skiing, and kitesurfing. The flat terrain, the unique landscape, and—last but not least—the natural spectacle of the tides invite visitors to enjoy mudflat hikes, Nordic walking, biking, and inline skating. Highlights of the year include the Hooksiel horse races, which take place every summer.
