The most loveliest home that is comfortable with an incredible history. The family that owns it has been there for generations and Mark was very forthcoming with sharing the history and answering all my questions about the area, with some really great suggestions on where to eat and visit. The grounds are so gorgeous too set right on the river Shannon, with its own dilapidated church, weir and castle! You do need to be mobile with a car to stay here though and get anywhere, which I did. Even so, Mark was happy to offer to pick me up from town. He even offered me a glass of red wine on my only nights stay! I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone travelling around Ireland and who wants a quaint place to stay. Mark, thank you.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at such a beautiful place and are host was wonderful. We were made to feel extremely welcome and had the lovely opportunity of meeting the family who were also great (including the dogs). The whole atmosphere was friendly and inviting, the view from our bedroom window of Shannon River was fabulous. It was so peaceful and relaxing there, with a really comfortable bed and a totally absorbing ambience of sheer enjoyment. With Mark's knowledge of the surroundings his suggestions of places to visit were perfect. We had an incredible, and unforgettable time and wouldn't hesitate on recommending this as a place to stay. If we're ever in that area again and need accommodation, we'll definitely go back there.
There was nothing we didn't like.

It was a hidden treasure tucked away by the Shannon river. The architecture of the house alone was enough to say it was a marvelous stay. And when you add the service from Mark, our host, his puppies, and the overall freedom we had to relax in the lounge area and dine in the dining room and basically believe for a few days that that was our home away from home, well that’s where our testimony truly stems from.

The property was quaint in its history, and nestled on an idyllic peninsula of the Shannon River. The owner Mark was wonderful. He was ever so helpful with answering questions and offering suggestions. He knows the area very well and has quite a story to tell about his family’s property.

No lighting when you turn from main road. No WiFi. No locks on doors. Shared bathroom

Very nice property. Bathrooms recently renovated - perfect space for 5 adults.

The property (outside) is indeed very pretty: on the riverside, grass is trimmed, it looks like a little forest, there is fruit (raspberry, apple trees), very nice.
The house is old and, except for the bedsheets, towels and shower, very dirty. You could make use of the kitchen which is pretty clean.
You get to experience an old house setup.
This is really more an AirBnB that a Booking property. The owner lived there in a different room. There was no lock on the inside of the bedroom and shared facilities.
The toilet has not been renovated and it looks dirty.
The floors, carpets, sitting area in the livingroom, walls: everything was dirty, full of cobwebs and dead spiders.
The add mentions an annex, which is probably newly renovated on the inside, but the outside is a total construction site.

The house and property are such a fun adventure. Mark and his family are so friendly and his family dogs were such a treat. Mark was there to greet us when we got there and our room was beautiful.
Nothing to note. Loved our stay here.

It was so beautiful! I appreciated how it felt like you could be right at home! From the most beautiful views to a vibrant home, it was a great stay
The location isn’t super close to anything but that wasn’t a problem! The host lent me a bike if I needed to go anywhere! No complaints!!

We loved our stay at the Shannon River House -- it was an amazing and unique experience. Highly recommended! The house is charming and Mark gave us a nice tour of the home and history. He was so wonderful and was able to accommodate our late check in and make us feel right at home. We enjoyed walking around the grounds and seeing the river too -- there was a lot to do on site. Mark also gave us local recommendations and the location was convenient but also quiet. I look forward to returning to Limerick and staying here in the future.

Shannon River House is an absolute gem! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that made us feel right at home. The setting by the river is simply breathtaking; peaceful, scenic, and the perfect place to unwind and reconnect with nature.
The house itself is beautifully kept, with every little detail thoughtfully considered to make the stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible. It felt like a home away from home, only better!
A special mention has to go to the lovely dogs. They completely stole our hearts! They were so friendly and affectionate, making the whole experience even more memorable. Coming back from a day out and being greeted by wagging tails was an absolute highlight.
If you’re looking for a serene getaway with stunning views, cosy comforts, and the sweetest four-legged companions, Shannon River House is the place to be. We can’t wait to come back!

Absolutely shocking place. Very dirty, old and smelly. I had a half used roll of toilet roll in my room when I arrived with dirt on it and that was just the beginning. Bottles of water supplied to room had dirt on caps , the lockers were filthy, the roof was mouldy and the paint on roof was peeling , the blinds were very dirty, there was hair in the bath and sink, I’ve tried to contact property but they won’t reply. I would not stay here again and would advice no one to book it

Quaint setting in Limerick - not far from the city yet you don't hear the hustle and bustle. Beautiful property with the brook right in front of the bungalow. Well stocked kitchen and friendly staff. The bungalow itself is historical and holds a charm of its own.

This was, without question, our favourite stay of the whole trip. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed into something very special.
Marc, his son Harry, and the rest of their family are restoring a magnificent old house set in a beautiful riverside landscape, with ancient trees, a small chapel on the grounds, and views of the river from the bedroom windows.
The house itself is somewhere between timeworn and lovingly renewed — full of character, a place that breathes history but feels alive. Their dog Noah, a charming and friendly dalmatian, held court from the living room chair and added even more soul to the place.
It was the only spot on our journey where our baby could sleep peacefully in the room while we were able to relax elsewhere in the house. For any parents travelling with a toddler, that’s priceless.
But most of all, we’ll remember the people: a wonderful evening spent chatting with Marc and another guest, Brian, who shared captivating stories of his past at sea — a moment of genuine connection, like visiting friends rather than staying in a guesthouse.
This is not a polished hotel — it’s a living project, full of soul, and it deserves to be supported. We truly hope more travellers will find their way here and help this beautiful vision thrive.

just amazing house full of history and a grand genius loci of this location. you'll never find such a place where history is breathing at you. I loved the old church like from the horror stories. eventhoug the house is totally outdated it keeps its charm of the ages ago. Expecially the toilet was great. Breakfast option (cereals, fresh bread, coffee, tea - great for sitting the blooming garden or dining room, walk around the private lake with swans.
further surrounding areas where under construction, need a lot of work to finish. but the main closer areas were like from a fairy tale. Some people who suffer on pets allergy may suffer (two dogs were present from the owner who btw lives there too).

Amazing place. Mark and family were great.
A bit remote but Mark et al were great about offering rides when they had the availability. And it was a relatively short taxi ride from city center.

Staying in this beautifully preserved historic house was a real highlight of our trip. The house is full of character and history, with elegant details throughout and a garden that’s clearly been lovingly cared for : peaceful, green, and perfect for a quiet walk along the river.
Our host was warm and welcoming, striking just the right balance of hospitality and space. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely at ease, as if we were guests in a friend’s grand family home.
This is not your typical accommodation, it’s something special. If you're looking for a stay that offers charm, comfort, and a real sense of place, this is well worth it.

We loved everything about our stay. It was the perfect historical setting. The grounds were so beautiful to walk, watch the swans, or sit at the big window (if raining) and enjoy the gardens. It’s still close enough to town to see the sites or take a tour then return to a relaxing home. Sharing a house and meeting other travelers was a bonus. Most of all, we enjoyed our evening with the host (Mark) and his son (Harry) sharing stories. We highly recommend staying at the Shannon River House.

I just do like old historical houses and accept what comes with it.
A wardrobe or something to place our cloths and a door key would have been nice.

The view from the house is marvellous. It’s a beautiful house with an old-money luxury. Its distance from the city is ideal and is perfect for someone looking to experience the countryside and the city simultaneously.
The owner Mark is very welcoming and friendly which makes it far more comfortable and warming.

The property itself is unique — an authentic historical house with a beautiful garden and lovely views of the river. Having breakfast in the garden was so pleasant and satisfying. We really enjoyed how peaceful and quiet the place was. It was the perfect environment to relax and truly get some rest.
The property is a bit far from Limerick city center, but the host was incredibly helpful, giving us rides to town and to the supermarket. He was very friendly and a pleasure to chat with. We even had dinner together and truly enjoyed his company. He showed us real hospitality — warm, generous, and genuine, which made our stay even more memorable.
The facilities were good. The bathroom was very clean and comfortable, particularly compared to other places we stayed at in Ireland. The bed mattress was super comfortable too.
There was a fully equipped kitchen available for guests to use. Although breakfast wasn't included, the host generously allowed us access to the food in the kitchen, which included everything from bread, butter, and jams to pasta and other ingredients for cooking. This made it very convenient to prepare our own meals and added to the feeling of being welcomed and at home.
It was a great value for money, and I would definitely stay there again if I return to Ireland.

Fabulous old house in wonderful surroundings. It could be a setting for Pride and Prejudice. Due to its age, you have to understand what it can offer. In return, we can have experiences that a modern hotel cannot offer. A touch of history right on the riverbank. Huge garden and its own church on the grounds. Young Harry welcomed us with outstanding hospitality, was always available and kind. He was always at our disposal for any problems. He also performed outstandingly as a local guide. In summary, it was a great experience, thank you.
The wheather :)
