We stayed in the Cabin closest to the reception The views from our room were a little obstructed but from the bedroom, but from the small room on second floor there were amazing views over the 3 volcanos. The breakfast on the balcony was the perfect way to start the day, and the views from the top room water the perfect way to end it. The cabin has a toilet which was a great surprise. The showers are shared, but close by, and never had to wait. Sure there are a lot of steps that make it impossible for people with disabilities, otherwise it is a small sacrifice that pays off for the experience. We are over 50 and did it gladly for the 3 nights we stayed in. There are at least 2 other yogurts on the level of our cabin, also close to shared shower and toilets. Upper level rooms probably have even better views but may be to much stairs if they don't have at least a toilet on the room. Choose wisely if you have a choice.
It is true, toilets are compost, yet we had one in the room and it never smelled bad. It is also true that you may be able to find ants and hunter-spiders, specially in the kitchen, yet they are rarely able to eat an adult human :-)... by the way, hunter-spiders are inoffensive to humans and eat mosquitoes so they are our allies, even if they are scary allies. In resume, don't think on this as an hotel, but more like glamping, where you exchange a little bit of your usual confort in exchange for a great experience. You will be glad you did it.

The view It was very clean Private & big yurt Friendly staff Efforts around sustainability
Ultimately it was just very expensive for very basic accommodation. This was our one accommodation splurge and was double what we paid anywhere else and left much to be desired. There were lots of small details not considered for the price which we had pretty much everywhere else we stayed. There were 2 showers between 5 yurts so we did have to wait for showers on a couple of occasions. Our yurt was 100 steps to the shower. 2/5 showers were cold No shelving in the shower so stuff on the floor or balanced on the door, an item of which fell off and was lost. Only one pillow each Not enough bedding so cold every night Was very noisy from the road and town which made it hard to sleep Drinking Water in our room not changed daily and ran out The face towel to dry your hands on not changed Half filled soap Spiders and ants in the room Asked to carry down the breakfast tray ourselves, again down 100 steps No hand railing for a lot of the steps which felt unsafe. Breakfast was really good but for the amount you pay for the room it should be included. The scenery and staff were great but given the price we assumed these small details would be seen to as part of the price, we stayed in several hotels over our stay, all half the price of here and they felt much much better value. On a side note, San marcos had a very odd energy with most of the shops and restaurants owned by non locals, a lot of whom were not that friendly and it felt as though there was a disconnect within the community. If you are looking to stay somewhere that is supporting local Mayan communities this is not that place.
