Livemax Resort Upopoy Shiraoionsen

Was assigned last dining timing due to late check in,. Drawn by Youtuber reviewed of unlimited Shiraoi beef. Had a excellent dinner with petite serving of food to prevent wastage.. Room was surprisingly cleani and well maintained. Onsen is large and enjoyable.

Splendid

The resort itself is huge and has excellent facilities. Everything was spotless, very clean, and well maintained. The reception staff were also very polite, welcoming, and hospitable. The location is perfect, and the rooftop has an amazing view that is honestly one of the best views I have experienced in Japan. From almost every side, I really cannot complain. The cleanliness, facilities, location, staff, and views were all excellent. However, there was one important issue for me: the shower facilities. I booked a capsule/dorm-style room, so I fully understood that I would have shared facilities. What I did not expect was that there was no option to take a private shower, and that all showers had to be taken in the public bath. Even many shared accommodations in Japan provide at least one private shower option. Because of this, I cannot give the hotel a higher rating. Apart from that point, everything was excellent and I genuinely enjoyed my stay.

I booked this place because I had one more night to burn in Hokkaido before heading back and I wanted to go to the Upopoy Ainu museum. For that purpose, it was a decent place at a decent price, with helpful staff. Judging purely on the merits of the hotel, its a bit more iffy. Though its called a resort and seems to be built with that purpose, the facilities seem just a bit run down. I frequently encountered large, empty rooms serving no purpose, adding to a creepy, decrepit feeling. My biggest complaint with it is that it was not a restful place to sleep. At night, there were many loud guests in the hallways and in the parking lot, disturbing my peaceful rest. In the morning, there was loud knocking in a nearby room, as well as yelling and stomping down the hallway just shortly after 7 AM. I tried to go back to sleep, but the room has no way to block out the morning sun, and the cleaning crew had already begun running their vacuums. I don’t mean to come off harshly, as the staff was helpful when I needed them, however the one and only thing I wanted out of this place was a restful sleep and I didn’t get that here. As a side note, if you do visit Shiraoi, make a point to stop by SURYA curry for a delicious Nepalese meal at a great price.
