Best Western Plus Batumi

This hotel is quite far from central area. My bad that I opted for it in spite of the poor location. We were a group of 4 families with teenage kids and I saw 4 identical units of large size triple rooms available on Agoda at this hotel. So, I compromised with location for room size. Bad decision and even worse that I had pre-paid for all the rooms. Upon arrival it was immediately clear that the place is unprofessional. ***, the front desk guy could find only three booked rooms, not four. Then he took 45 minutes to locate the 4th booking. No exaggeration here – we had driven 8.5 hours from Kazbegi to Batumi. It was a group member’s birthday. We had skipped lunch to arrive early and celebrate with a nice dinner and were counting minutes. Then *** calmly says the available rooms are not of same type. I showed him my Agoda voucher and insisted on getting 4 rooms of the type I booked. Luca says I don’t have anything to do with Agoda. Our backend shows only Booking.com and it did not inform us of room type booked - "It is not your problem but it is not our problem either". Keen on saving time, we agreed to see the 4 available rooms - 1 was the type I had booked, 2 were smaller but good enough, and 1 significantly smaller to barely have space to squeeze in our suitcases. I gladly accepted 2 of the smaller rooms and requested that the 4th one - since it is way smaller than what I reserved be changed. He got Manager ***on call and then started the lies. First, ***said we don't have any rooms available (later we found the whole hotel was almost empty). I showed my booked room types were still available through Agoda for my dates. He says that's wrong. If you book it - I will have to cancel your booking. I said ok - then upgrade one room to next category (junior suite). Mr *** says that it cannot accommodate three people (even though Agoda app shows it can and its available!). You have to accept the smallest triple. He says, and I quote, – “For the first time a customer is insisting on room type. A triple for me is a triple with three beds!”. Seriously Mr Gogi, accepting the small triple just seemed annoying and unfair to my group of 10 seasoned adult travelers. But by now we were so frustrated and delayed – that we accepted to squeeze the kid in a double bed in the junior suite. Mr *** repeatedly insisted that it has no space for extra bed. But since we were willing to manage, Mr *** had no option but to give us the junior suite. Turns out, the suite had an extra pull-out sofa bed and could very much accommodate one kid – maybe even two kids. Then we insisted on bedsheet and blanket for it – which was, trust me, very reluctantly provided. Why Mr *** said his junior suite only had a double bed is best known to him. He needs to take a tour of the hotel he manages. He killed 1.5-2 hours of our time, our entire evening, and ruined a planned birthday celebration. He certainly does not belong in the hospitality industry. In the last fifteen years of travelling in Europe I have not had the kind of horrid experience that I had with Best Western Plus Batumi. All thanks to Mr*** who either does not know anything about his hotel rooms or is a plain liar with zero concern for customer experience. Very poor example of a manager in hospitality industry and brings very poor name to his employer. Very unnecessary trouble that he created when he could have easily accommodated as the hotel was almost empty (see the dining hall picture at breakfast time - we are the only people in such a large hall) In a nutshell – if you are considering this hotel for 4-star experience or spacious rooms, forget it. You won’t get your booked room type. Stay centrally. There are tons of good options. See the photos attached. Very bad Best Western Plus Batumi.
