MEHOOD Elegant Hotel Shanghai Bund

One of the worst hotel experiences I have had in China. We arrived at around 8:00 AM after travelling through the night. I understand that the official check-in time was 3:00 PM and that early check-in cannot always be guaranteed. However, the hotel made absolutely no effort to help us find a reasonable solution or offer any alternative. We simply had to wait until 3 PM. Unfortunately, the room made the long wait even more disappointing. The room was dirty, smelled unpleasant and felt extremely damp. Even the BEDDING FELT WET, which is completely unacceptable for a hotel. There were visible signs of moisture and what appeared to be mold in several areas, particularly around the walls and windows. The bathroom was in terrible condition: dirty joints and edges, stained surfaces and generally very poor maintenance. The furniture was also damaged and poorly maintained. There were exposed wires, damaged surfaces, stains on the curtains and upholstery, and numerous signs that the room had not been properly cared for. And then there was the balcony. It was honestly shocking. Instead of being a pleasant usable space, it looked neglected, dirty and unfinished, with heavily stained walls and worn furniture. I did not want to spend any time there at all. I have attached photos because they describe the condition of this hotel better than words can. The staff tried to appear friendly, but to me the service felt superficial rather than genuinely helpful. When we actually needed assistance, we did not receive a meaningful solution. What makes the experience particularly upsetting is that this stay was on my birthday. I had expected to enjoy the day in Shanghai, but instead, after travelling overnight, I spent hours waiting for a room and then ended up staying in accommodation that felt damp, dirty and poorly maintained. This hotel seriously affected what should have been a special day. Based on the room I was given and my experience during this stay, I would not stay here again and cannot recommend it.

I stayed at Mehood Elegant Hotel Shanghai Bund for 5 days and 4 nights, and overall it was a comfortable stay. The location is excellent and feels extremely safe, as it’s right next to a police station in a quiet business district. It’s very convenient for sightseeing—just a 10–15 minute walk to The Bund, and perfect for morning runs along the riverfront at North Bund Greenland. I mostly used Didi to get around, which was quick and close to all major attractions. The room itself was very spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped. The only downside was the housekeeping service. Towels were not changed, and even though I requested room cleaning before heading out for the day, I would return in the evening to find my room untouched for several days in a row. They ended up sending staff to clean the room around 9:00 PM instead. However, I appreciate that the management took responsibility for the issue and offered free breakfast the next morning as a sincere apology. Despite the housekeeping delays, I still had a pleasant stay, and considering the price, I think it offers great value for anyone visiting Shanghai.

We stayed in the family room consists of 2 single bed and 1 queen bed in Dec 2025. This is probably one of the worst hotel I ever stayed in. I found mold in the shower. The shower head is faulty and doesnt hold well. There is no privacy — the shower wall is transparent and this was a disaster as we were all adult. It winter and the central heater is switched on. Our room is overheating like a sauna and we weren’t able to adjust the temperature. The hotel staff claimed that it all the same in Shanghai (I doubt his word). We had to resort opening the window throughout the night allowing the cold air in. The condition of the room isn’t great either, feels cheap and things is breaking apart (wall is coming off etc) Otherwise, Hotel staff were decent, smooth check in and -out. Overall would not recommend to anyone unless your budget is tight.
