Harte & Garter

The location is the BEST ! Opposite the castle & literally in the heart of Windsor ! The staff were very helpful & extremely polite . The hotel is characterful which gives you the full experience. Albeit a bit frayed on the edges it is a beautiful old building . The bedroom was large and very grand with palatial furniture . The bathroom was gorgeous too with a roll top bath & walk in shower .

The few things I am about to say have no bearing on our stay in Windsor and we have said we would stay again at the Harte & Garter but I feel I need to say them to advise future residents . There isn’t a restaurant / eating place in the hotel as this area that obviously once was has now been taken over by The Ivy restaurant , which is a fabulous eatery which is part of the original building but the hotel now has no dining room / breakfast room / restaurant . This wasn’t clear in the hotel description and we only realised this when asking what time breakfast was . It is a take-away bag you collect from reception ! With breakfast in it - croissant / muffin / cereal bar / apple / orange / babybel & carton of Ribena . This was adequate but the cheese & pastries were warm obv not kept in a fridge or somewhere cool as it was 32degrees outside during our stay ! We stayed 2 nights & expected the room to be made up & cleaned whilst out but on our return there was fresh towels & bin emptied & cups washed but the bed was unmade & as we had breakfast in the room there was croissant crumbs on the carpet & bedside as we didn’t have plates ! & it hadn’t been wiped over or hoovered . It was also noisy in the early hours with deliveries to the Ivy & binmen doing their thing . This being said the location & the character will definitely draw us back to stay here again .

Location and staff

The weather was gorgeous so missed aircon, very clean and we had what we needed but a little updated, a bit of work needed on the bathroom but no complaint as location and friendly, helpful staff made up for it

Perfect site on Windsor High St.

No terrestrial TV. Couldn’t even get BBC, ITV live channels!! Bath / shower drains so slowly there’s a pool of water in the shower while you’re standing in it! Decor is shabby.
