Ponderosa Mile

Loved the location! Right on the edge of the "wilderness"! Lots of wild life. Seen? deer! Heard? Coyotes! Stunning vistas, tons of fresh air and so beautifully quiet and peaceful!

Prob the only disconcerting thing was, the nest of baby swallows at the top of front door. The handle of the front outer door was totally obscured by bird excrement as was a good portion of the porch. We were of course very mindful of the swallows but it meant feeling obligated to use that entrance as little as possible. We feel it only fair that the next visitor should be pre-informed there might be "shared" accommodation. Also, we are big on using air conditioning as little as possible, preferring lots of ventilation. In an ideal world, rather than solid glass, we would have enjoyed the front outer door being a secure screen door, that could have afforded a cross breeze. But perhaps weather in that region dictates that most of the time you'd be trying to retain warmth . . ?

Das Haus ist sehr geräumig und top ausgestattet. Es liegt am Rande einer ruhigen Siedlung mit Blick auf die Weide. Black Hills mit Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park und Sturgis sind gut erreichbar.

Am Tag unserer Ankunft haben wir im Theater (Kinoraum) 4 tote Mäuse (!!!) in einer Falle gefunden. Sehr ekelig. Sie wurden zwar am nächsten Morgen von Maintenance entsorgt, aber das ungute Gefühl blieb während des ganzen Aufenthalts. Zwei der Schlafzimmer waren nämlich unmittelbar daneben. Weitere Fallen haben wir dann auch noch gesehen (aber leer). Leider wollte man uns für die Unannehmlichkeiten KEINE Entschädigung anbieten und speiste uns nur ab mit der Aussage "das gehöre um die Jahreszeit in der Gegend einfach dazu". Bei dem Preis hätten wir uns das allerdings nicht erwartet, zumal die Mäuse da offensichtlich nicht erst seit dem Tag unserer Ankunft gelegen hatten. Man hatte uns auch noch gebeten, Fotos davon zu machen ..... Sehr schade!!
