MRS El mirador de la Alcazaba

The location of this property is good, but be prepared for a steep hill climb when heading to and from the city center. Unfortunately, the rest of the stay did not live up to expectations. The property does not feel newly renovated as advertised. It was poorly cleaned, the kitchen was dirty and lacked proper equipment, and the photos are misleading. The promised "mountain view" from the terrace is only visible if you stand up and look over the roof line. The layout is highly inconvenient: to reach the nicest of the three bedrooms, you must walk outside and go up two flights of stairs. To use the bathroom, you have to step outside on the ground floor, which is highly unpleasant in rainy weather. On top of this, host communication was slow, and we were hit with an unadvertised, feeling suspicious €200 deposit requirement. The place needs attention and maintenance and more accurate listing details.

Excellent communication from the management company prior to the booking and throughout the rental. Good advice about where to park. Parking in the street is very easy in the morning when the locals have gone to work but at other times is extremely difficult. If you are a nervous driver be aware that the house is at the top of a very steep street that is a dead end and you will need good handbrake control to turn round. We tended to use the parking in Calle Jesus or outside the church and then walk down to the house as it is a very short walk down to the house but it can be a long way up. House is modern but quirky. On the ground level there is the lounge/dining room, the kitchen and two bedrooms. One is a double bed and the other is bunk beds. You then walk outside through a covered outdoor patio to the bathroom and a separate laundry room but this is still on the ground level with all the other main rooms. There is then a flight of stairs to another very large double bedroom with TV and a roof terrace that has a covered area with a large sofa, barbecue and an open area for sun worshippers. This terrace has beautiful views. House is modern and comfortable and less than 10 mins walk downhill to the main centre of Antequera but don't forget on the way back this means you have to go uphill.
