Pousada Bartholomeu was extremely charming. It is a beautiful and well maintained old building in the heart of Centro Histórico. Literally the town square is in the front of the building. The room was spacious and cutely decorated. The breakfast was very good, too. We did encounter a problem when the pousada lost our reservation, but they were never dismissive and worked to get us our room.

Paid more than 200 dollars for a room in this "pousada" and the first time I needed to use the bathroom, it couldn't flush my excrements since there was no water for it. When I complained, employees told me it's normal not to have water to flush because sometimes they run out of it. For you that are thinking staying there during a romantic trip with your partner and not being able to flush after taking a s***. There is no love that survives this type of event. Unacceptable.

Considering we were in the historical centre of Paraty, this was a very reasonable accommodation. Despite being in a noisy area it was generally quite quiet, EXCEPT, when the excellent restaurant is operating, the exhaust fan is right outside the bedroom window. On our first night we asked about this and were told it would go off at 10, which it did. Night 2 the restaurant was closed, night 3, the fan did not go off until 11;30. Otherwise, the beds were good, the room was a good size and everything worked well. Try the restaurant - a bit pricey, but excellent.

Everything about the Pousada Bartholomeu was wonderful, great location, quiet room, amazing restaurant (we had the best food in Paraty here) beautiful garden. However, the bed was very hard. Apart from that, we loved our stay. Beware though, no cars are allowed in the old part of town, so getting your suitcases over the incredible cobblestones is a challenge, but well worth it.

Beautiful hotel in the heart of Paraty. Highly recommended. The restaurant in site is excellent. Parking paid two blocks away..During the night, you can enjoy strolling along the cobblestone streets in this UNESCO Creative Gourmet City.,

Everyone at the hotel was really nice and helpful. Even though no one really spoke English and my friend and I don't speak Portugese, we still made it work and thought everyone was lovely. We arrived super early and the hosts let us check in 7 hours early as we were just sitting outside. On checkout day, we had to be ready for our pickup 30 min before breakfast began and they quickly accommodated and brought breakfast out as we waited. The location was perfect! And as all the other reviews mentioned, the breakfast was amazing!!!! Lots of people mentioned not wanting to stay in the 3 person room above the kitchen. We ended up in that room and even though there was a little noise from the kitchen, it didn't really bother us. We didn't smell the food or see into the kitchen as someone said you could. Overall, it was a great stay and we would stay here again.

The hotel is in an old colonial building which has been well restored and is in a great location in the centre of the old town. Staff are excellent and breakfast is magnificent! The only downside for me was the electric shower which wasn't hot enough, but I recognise the constraints in an old building and the character made up for it.
