This place is an underappreciated gem. It lies on the banks of the Rio San Carlos with 24 individual cabins. The rooms are very spacious and nicely appointed. While the pictures show the cabins overlooking the river only around four or five of them actually do that. I spent three nights here in August, 2018. The property lies only 11 kilometers from the border with Nicaragua. This area is remote and very hot and humid and the cabins are not air conditioned but have a ceiling fan and a powerful floor fan that provided great cooling power. The rooms have a balcony off the back where you can sit and relax. When I checked in my room and walked outside there was a yellow throated toucan resting in the tree behind my cabin. The next morning 9 keel-billed toucans were in the trees surrounding the banana feeders. This place has great numbers and variety of birds for those seeking them including scarlet macaws. The property surrounding the rooms is relatively small and the birds are attracted by the banana feeders but there is also a separate property that is 2 kilometers away that is much larger and has been planted with a number of trees and plants specifically to attract macaws and other birds. There are rare great green macaws in the area but while I didn't see any of them I saw over 10 scarlet macaws during my stay which was a real highlight. Flocks of parrots and tanagers visit the banana feeders each morning including green and red-legged honeycreepers.

The staff are very friendly, Don Marcos was a excellent host. We have some troubles to check in, but after that everything was good. The road isn't perfect I highly recommend all terrain vehicle. They don't have TV and the wifi isn't good (I know it's an eco hotel, but we need wifi to check out some emails) The food was delicious! The only thing was they don't have menu, they cook 1 or 2 options per time.
