The AC wasn't working in 35 degree in June, there were cockroaches in the room and bathroom

My room wasn’t cleaned during my stay—not even the trash was taken out. The shower drain was blocked, so the water wouldn’t flow. At 3 p.m., while I was sleeping, someone knocked so loudly to bring towels that it startled me awake. There was also a lot of noise coming from the customer service staff themselves.

When I first saw this accommodation advertised, I thought it was in a nice area of Palermo near university areas... For some reason I thought it would be very clean and neat. Very wrong. It's in one of the roughest and maybe poorest areas of Palermo? It's a very dirty area with dog poop on nearly very footpath, cars parked all over, including on the footpaths, rubbish about, lots of broken pavements and roads etc. It was a real shock, especially once you start exploring Palermo and it's worlds apart from the nicer parts of the city that look are clean and orderly. The area is noisy with neighbours shouting at each other and cars honking early in the morning. The accommodation itself matches the vibe, it's very run-down in the room, the blanket had white stains on them, the shower was "stuttering" - and takes a while for the hot water to arrive. The room did have a stovetop and kitchen bench with sink that I didn't use, as they looked dirty anyway. There's a shelf with a bunch of cables that weren't even kept nicely and just strewn all over. The aircon remote was half broken (could only turn temp up, not down). There's a small bar fridge which works but I didn't use. The bed looks like a double but it's just two single beds side by side covered by one bedsheet. The bathroom sink and silverware was rusty, as was the bin underneath the sink. The towels were clean at least. Walking back to the apartment late at night in that type of neighbourhood felt very sketchy, I highly discourage solo girls from even trying. It's dark and dirty. I'm not at all saying the people aren't friendly, as they seem to be across Palermo, but you don't know anyone really. Honestly the place was cheap, but even then it seemed expensive for what you're actually experiencing. I'd spend a bit more money to be closer to the city centre and in an area that isn't dirty and in a shocking state. The staff were nice, I gave one of them a gift.
