    The location is beautiful, with a stunning beach and great surroundings. However, the overall resort experience could be much better. The rooms and facilities feel old and in need of renovation, and the service was not always at the level expected for a resort in such a beautiful location. The natural surroundings are definitely the highlight, but the resort needs to improve its maintenance, cleanliness and service quality to provide a better overall experience. Beautiful island and beach, but the resort itself needs significant improvement.

    I was really looking forward to staying at Perhentian Island Resort, but unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing, mainly because of the room assigned to us compared with the price we paid. I paid RM360 per night, which is definitely not a cheap amount for me. When booking through Agoda, the only available room category was listed as “Room Assigned Upon Check-In.” I had no option to choose a specific room type, so I assumed that the room provided would at least be reasonably comfortable and suitable for a family travelling with a small child. Unfortunately, upon arrival, we were given an A-Frame room with no air-conditioning and a separate outdoor toilet. For me, this was extremely inconvenient, especially with a small child. The room itself felt very basic, and considering the RM360 price tag, I honestly felt that the room was worth around RM120 per night at most. To be fair, I have nothing bad to say about the resort staff or the overall service. The staff were kind, friendly and helpful. We requested a stand fan, prayer mat and extra towels, and everything was delivered promptly. One of the towels in our room also had a stain, but the staff were responsive when we requested a replacement. The food was okay as well. The resort's location is also excellent. However, as we wanted to go to Long Beach to watch the fire show, we had to take a boat taxi, which cost us RM80 per adult for a return trip. This was an additional expense to consider. My biggest issue is simply the room versus the price paid. At RM360 per night, I genuinely believe I could have gotten a much better room, including air-conditioning, at another resort in Perhentian. I am a frequent visitor to the Perhentian Islands and usually stay at Perhentian Kecil, so this was my first time trying Perhentian Besar. Unfortunately, I have to say that I regret choosing to stay here, particularly because of the room allocation and the value for money. The staff and location deserve credit, but for RM360 per night, I expected much more in terms of room comfort and facilities. I hope the resort and booking platforms can provide clearer information about exactly what guests may receive under “Room Assigned Upon Check-In,” especially when the room may have no air-conditioning and an outdoor bathroom. This would allow guests to make a more informed decision before paying a premium price.

    Paying RM1k /night/room for this kind of poorly maintained & rundown resort is really unlucky. Sewage smell, lousy toilet fittings, dirty pool, non-alcoholic restaurant, etc. Agoda too added salt to wound with mix & match rooms booking arrangement. 1st time in life where I have to check-out & check-in with 3 hours wasted in between my 3-day stay. BAD !!!
