    I had a very pleasant stay here. The staff spoke good English and were consistently helpful. I arrived early and was able to check in at around 10am, which I really appreciated after my morning arrival. I also sent several Taobao parcels to the hotel a few days before my trip. The staff were able to receive and store them for me. There is also a courier collection point just outside the hotel, making online deliveries very convenient. The hotel is located inside a hutong rather than directly on a main road. This gives you an interesting glimpse of a more local Beijing neighbourhood, although it may feel slightly less convenient for some travellers. I used Didi throughout my stay rather than the subway, as rides were generally affordable and fast. Most Didi cars could enter the hutong, except occasionally around school dismissal time when access became busier or more restricted. Some drivers were also less enthusiastic about navigating the narrow hutong roads. If the quality and comfort of the car matter to you, I recommend booking Didi Premier. Breakfast starts at 6:30am and offers a decent, simple selection. It was especially useful on sightseeing days because we could have breakfast early and head straight to the attractions. The only real downside was the Wi-Fi, which was weak and intermittent during my stay. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for its helpful staff, practical breakfast, good value and characterful local setting—especially if you are comfortable using Didi to get around.

    Stayed 4D3N at the Holiday Inn Express Beijing Downtown. Holiday Inn Express is usually my go-to because it is fuss free, comes with breakfast, and has all the basic amenities I need. The location is not the most strategic as it is still about a 700–800m walk to the nearest mall or train station. After a long day out under the hot sun, the walk can feel tiring, though Didi rides are affordable and convenient. I appreciated the service and welcome gift as an IHG member, and housekeeping was generally good. However, there was one incident that left me uncomfortable. I had placed all my trash and food waste into an old handbag that I intended to throw away. I even left a note in both Mandarin and English requesting for the entire bag to be discarded. When I returned around 5pm, the housekeeping lady stopped me and asked if I still wanted the bag. She had removed all the trash and cleaned the handbag instead. I told her I wanted the whole bag thrown away. Since then, I felt uneasy because I sometimes discard unwanted or damaged items during trips, and the bag had contained food waste. At checkout, I raised this to the counter staff, but he dismissed my concerns as he kept insisting there was likely a misunderstanding instead of acknowledging why I felt uncomfortable. Unfortunately, this incident left a sour impression and I do not think I will stay here again.
