Palazzo Adele Rooms & Apartments

The property is walking distance to Herculaneum and a convenient 20 to 30 minute drive to get to Naples airport, so ideal for our last night stay. Friendly and helpful staff and very clean. Safe and free parking which was a big plus for us with a hire car too.

Comfortable, well-equipped self catering apartment very close to the railway station (500m) and an easy walk to the ruins, which are the main reason for visiting. Ercolano is interesting rather than beautiful, and some parts of town are horrible, including the cut through to the railway station which seems to be an open-air toilet and is the only place we've actually seen graffiti 'artists' at work. Avoid and go round by the road. That said, we never felt unsafe or unwelcome and there are plenty of places to eat and drink. We would go back without hesitation, just don't expect a beautiful Italian town. The ruins of Herculaneum are exceptional - get the audio guide if you're not an expert on Roman architecture. A good plan is to see Herculaneum before Pompeii because, although smaller, Herculaneum is in many ways better preserved and interpreted (Pompeii is VAST). There is a commuter train service (the 'Circumversuvio' system) 500m from the apartments. This will take you all over the area, including to Pompeii, Naples and Sorrento, avoiding the need for a car. It is a truly terrible railway - often late, overcrowded and uncomfortable and expect steps everywhere. There are no decent views from the train either. It is, however, quite cheap and frequent.
