We arrived late after the office closed. They emailed me to tell me they were closed and my key would be in my unlocked room. I had no other instructions provided. Upon arriving, there was a gate to the compound and no one would answer the phone. Eventually, I gained access to the property to find that I also needed another code to get in the building. After an hour, a random person walking around gave me the code. The room was an old seminary dormitory and was extremely basic.

What a find - a hotel in a working convent that used to be a palace! Breakfast nice, dinner excellent. Good choice of wines and beer. Room spotlessly clean, nice size. Grounds beautifully kept. Lovely long walking trails in the woods behind the convent. Plenty of safe parking. Very tranquil, absolutely top class, and at a very fair price. This is the second time I have stayed there, and will do so again.

I booked two rooms for three nights because it included breakfast and parking space (and had a 9.0 as grade) to accommodate our visit to the Alsace region. Dislikes: - No service, no cleaning of room or refill of amenities for 3 nights. (Dear staff: Covid-19 pandemic has ended). It is also did not mention it during booking that there is no cleaning service at all. - Breakfast, is all you can eat, but very basic. Slices of cake was only for the nuns, not for the paying guests. :-( - Although the room and bathroom have been brought to this century, it is all very basic. - Our room’s (14) bathroom had a very bad smell from the shower drain. Needed to cover it with a towel. - No extras, e.g. one TV is in a shared common area for all the guests. No fridge, no water cooker, no coffee machine, no hair dryer in the room, but you can share one with the rest of the guests. - No airconditioning. - No mosquito/fly frames in windows. Likes: - The staff was friendly and provided checkin details as we would be arriving late. - Spacious clean rooms and common areas. Conclusion: I don’t understand why other guests gave this place a 9. I think it is worth a 6 and it is just a 2-star hotel.

A peaceful retreat in a beautiful medieval village. Great French cuisine in the hotel and surrounding restaurants. The room was cleaned to a very high standard. A great base for hiking in the surrounding forest.

Having stayed in September for two nights we were looking forward to our return. Our three night stay was disappointing as our room was not attended to at all - soaps had to be collected from reception on the second day, the rubbish was never collected & the long corridor to our room was dirty, with dust & general dirt. Breakfast was fine & the dining room staff were pleasant. Having quietly pointed out the shortcomings at reception twice, there was an indifferent response. It was a sad reflection on what our previous visit had made on us.
