Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary

Arkaroola Wildlife Sanctuary was amazing. It has a harsh beauty about being in the South Australian outback which has been in drought for 16 years. The last good rain they had was five years ago . The geology is amazing with the oldest rock formations in the world The plants and wildlife are amazing! We watched the yellow footed wallabies being fed by Doug who is one of the owner operators. He is so full of knowledge and hilarious!! He also took us star gazing which was also one of the most amazing experiences of my life!!! The service and food was exceptional!! Big shout out to Sam the super human!!! Sam was the receptionist, chef, petrol attendant, cleaner, waiter and concierge!! The most amazing multi talented human ever. I can’t recommend Arkaroola highly enough!! We only stayed overnight, you really need at least 3 days minimum. Thank you

This is a lovely place - we booked for one night and changed to stay for two to enjoy the place. The night sky scoping was wonderful and informative and the day drives were rugged and interesting (and suitable for AWDs not just 4WDs)

I strongly recommend the arkaroola village hotel! Excellent facilities, very kind people and amazing views!

We had 3 nights, 2 days but I wish we had another day at least. The surrounding mountains are awesome. Fantastic for anyone who is into nature, geology, astronomy, off the beaten track. Th Ridge Top Tour with Pierre was one of the highlights of our 4 week road trip. What a 4WD road! & the views! You see river beds, red rocky mountains, the salt Lake Frome in the distance. The staff really made the place special - so friendly & enthusiastic. They know how to select people who are great with people. We had the Welsh astronomer, who makes astronomy exciting for everyone. We learnt a lot. We didn't meet all the staff but the ones we did meet were lovely. Accommodation in Mawson was very comfortable & spacious. The restaurant was great. The Acacia Ridge walk has wonderful views of the ranges. Griselda Hill was good too would have liked to do more of their walks. Saw wedge tailed eagles and the yellow footed rock wallabies, Euros, etc. The only issue was the road in - make sure you drive slowly & have good tyres & a good spare we got a puncture on the way in (had to turn back as we couldn't risk having no spare) & on the way out too! Both were older tyres, not off road tyres, as we only have an AWD so maybe that was it. Other people towed caravans in without incident. The road is groomed but has lots of bits with sharp rocks. But I would not miss staying there & would go again.
