Sheraton Berlin Grand Hotel Esplanade

Negatives. The location was a little out of the main area. We had to remind reception that our room hadn't been service. The rooms need updating. We told them that the visit was to celebrate a birthday but there was no evidence of it and when we stated our disappointment a token was given for 2 drinks for our party of 6!!! They could not find a candle to put on a cake in such a large hotel! We spent a great deal of money staying for 3 nights using 2 deluxe rooms. There were no bathrobes or slippers. Definitely not a memorable visit for the right reasons! No childrens cereal at breakfast Positive. Good selection of pastries,bread and fruit. There was a good selection of cold and hot food but the hot food was tepid.

This Sheraton hotel is NOT a 5 star hotel anymore!! We were mislead by this when we booked on Agoda. We arrived during a record high heatwave in Berlin, we were expecting at least some good air conditioning in this hotel when we checked in. But to our disappointment, the air conditioning was very weak in our room, the manager came to check and said there was nothing he could do as all the rooms’ AC was like that, we had to suggest ourselves if there was at least a fan he could provide us with instead - we received this later on and was better. We had also booked for a room with an extra single bed in place, we expected this to be laid out ready in our room as we had even checked in a bit later as well, but nothing was set up ready at all for us. All amenities in the hotel were all dated and of poor quality e.g. the fridge was barely cold and no kettle was provided. Our room cleaning for some reason was not done on the 3rd day of our stay after returning from a concert at night, even though we didn’t have the DND sign out, we had to call and complain to reception about this. The manager that day dealt with this well as he personally came up to clean and tidy the room for us - however this should have been done before and not required us to call and wait for this to be done for us. I raised this issue to a hotel manager the next day as this shouldn’t be the service from a 5 star hotel, but I was shocked to hear him say that this hotel currently has no stars and is under the change of management. Very disappointed and not worth the money spent at all.

We stayed at the panoramic view room but could not get extra bed for person no 3. Instead they gave us another room just opposite which was good. One bad thing was aircon - the panoramic room was too hot because of the glass wall and the aircon was not sufficient enough in the hot summer. So we had to sleep in 27-28 degree. Not good enough for a 5-star hotel. Parking facility was good but the ticket system sometimes failed and we had to go back 3 times to reception to get new tickets. Breakfast very good we think.
