We arrived at the airport during the long power outage in Spain/Portugal. Because this apartment only gives the lockbox code out just before check-in time we were unable to access the code as the internet etc was down. As we didn't know when things would be back to normal, and as we didn't want to be stuck out on the street during the power outage, there was no point attempting to get to the apartment (which would have been difficult anyway, as our airport transfer didn't turn up and public transport was largely out of action). The power came back on around 5 hours later, but it was a further 2 hours before the internet was working again, and we were able to access the keycode. Only then could we travel from the airport, by bus, arriving after midnight (we should have arrived around 4pm).
Everywhere else where we have had a lock box for the key, the code has been supplied well in advance (usually weeks), and had that been the case here we would have been able to leave the airport much earlier.
