Casa Artemisia

Casa Artemisia and Kalymnos were our fifth stop on our journey through the Dodecanese islands. So, by then, we had quite a lot to compare it with. The first and most positive thing was that Eirini welcomed us personally, told us the story of both her house and the whole island, and introduced us to what there is to see on Kalymnos and, most importantly, why it is worth seeing. And, of course, there was her excellent tea and the cookies from a local bakery. (We tried to buy the same cookies ourselves, but it turned out that they have to be ordered in advance. So Eirini had actually ordered them specially for her guests.) The fruit basket, the food waiting for us in the fridge and the coffee were also a very pleasant touch. Second: the spaciousness of our apartment, the excellent furnishings, the attention to small details in the interior that together create a feeling that everything has been thought through and is exactly where it should be, the very high standard of cleanliness, and the fact that practically every little household item you might need was there (from kitchen utensils, glasses, dishes and teaspoons to salt, pepper, olive oil, cookies and marmalades for breakfast, cheese in the fridge, etc.). And third: the view through the large glass windows over the port of Pothia, the town promenade, the bay and the mountains directly opposite (with Chora Castle in the background). It is also important to mention that the sounds of the town are very well kept outside. And Pothia really is, unlike the capitals of the other islands we visited, a very lively and even rather “big-city” kind of place. Once the windows are closed, the sound insulation is excellent. And everything the capital has to offer is literally just a few steps away — from tavernas to the museum, the market and the little churches. So yes — we can confidently recommend Casa Artemisia to anyone.

We stayed at Casa Artemisia for six nights as part of our trip. When we arrived we were met by Eirini. I can't say enough to praise her as a host. She showed us her stunning apartment and gave us great insights into where to go and what to see while we were on Kalymnos. She is such a lovely warm lady and always available for advice and any help needed. The apartment is simply the best we have stayed in. The location is right outside the port as you arrive on the edge of the Marina. When you enter you are met by a spacious beautifully decorated space. Everything you could possibly need is provided and the attention to the smallest detail is incredible. The view from the apartment, and the wrap around balcony, of the marina is so special and watching the yachts arrive in the morning and the lights in the evening was such an unexpected treat. Even though you are right on the edge of the lively Pothia marina and port the apartment is exceptionally quiet. Eirini allowed us to stay until just before our ferry was leaving which was greatly appreciated. In short an exceptional kind host and a spectacular property. We are already planning our next Greek adventure and our only certainty is we will be looking to stay with Eirini again. Thanks so much for the kindness and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Our stay there was amazing! The location was so central to anywhere you needed go on the island. When we sat on our balcony we had uninterrupted views of the harbour and its blue waters. Our host Irene spoilt us on arrival with jams honey rusks water yogurts Rice pudding, juices. The apartment was spacious and everything was extremely clean.
