I had booked two different rooms at this guesthouse while I was staying in Laos because it is very popular, and I didn't know it would get booked out so quickly; so I had to stay at a different hotel for 2 nights and come back to the Mabuhay later. The first room I stayed in was very spacious, clean, quiet, and peaceful. It had everything you could need, including: a comfortable king-size bed (it was very nice and big), a sofa, a small table, an ensuite bathroom where eveyrthing worked perfectly fine. No toilet paper was provided but it's okay, you can go to the Koko Mart (just further up on the left side of Rue Bourichane past the Royal Thai Embassy, and get toilet paper for 5LAK, it's fine), and a balcony. The sink was big enough to hold everything I needed, including a towel to dry yourself with. The second room I stayed in was much smaller but still more than decent for what I needed. The bed was single and the room has (because it has no window/s), but I still got a cosy sofa chair and a table with different compartments to put things in. I needed to use a shared bathroom for this room because it didn't have its own (like the first room) but it's okay, everything was still really good, clean, and the people staying there knew how to leave things as they found them. Lot of great respect for this guesthouse. <3 I liked the Filippino food that they cooked- delicious! I also made some new friends there too- such lovely, helpful people that if I am ever in Laos in the future, I would like to come back and stay again.
Honestly, I was a little scared of the bigish flying bugs that were attracted to the light in the smaller, single bedroom because, sometimes, they kept coming down to fly into me while I was on my phone. I don't think they can bite you (they're not like mosquitos) but they are a little distracting because you can hear them crashing themselves into the lightbulb.) The only way to get rid of them was to turn the big light off in the room, open the door, and let them fly out. There were no ants during my stay, and I know the guesthouse is kept extraordinarily clean- I saw their cleaning lady every day. She doesn't disturb people and she is very good at her job. It would have been mega helpful if the guesthouse had more 3 to 2 pin converter wall adapters for guests because they has lent out the one they had to another guest. I did need to use my laptop and couldn't because of this problem and I had to go out and buy a new one from an electronics shop (inew Oppo (cell phone and mocile devices) store on Dongpalane Road that doesn't label the tax. It cost me 178,000LAK (and they tried charging 199,000LAK because their prices are like in the USA so...) I paid for 2 nights online that I didn't need to use because Booking.com doesn't allow its guesthouses, hotels, etc to remove requests when they've paid and been approved (which I was because I thought I was staying since the visa situation with the Royal Thai Embassy is wild right now and you'll be sitcking around sporadically for like 2 weeks in Laos waiting for approval.) I got an email from the Thai Embassy/ somewhere about my E-visa status saying I could come home to Thailand and, because I'd already booked 2 more nights at the Mabuhay, I couldn't get about 20USD back. It's okay, I totally understand why. Booking.com needs to be better for everybody and fix that problem because I know Sarah and her family would absolutely not scam anybody.
