Très bel appartement, dans une belle villa (probablement fin 19ème, début 20ème siècle, architecture des villas de villégiature typique de la grande époque touristique du lac Majeur, avec hauts plafonds décorés, joliment meublé, mais malheureusement pas d'informations fournie par rapport à son histoire ou le contexte). Grand salon et une grande terrasse, des balcons.... La possibilité de se parquer devant l'immeuble est très pratique et sécurisante.
Le séjour commence par une série de messages automatiques en anglais. Nous répondons en italien. Une personne répond mais les échanges sont sans cesse entrecoupés par des messages impersonnels (enregistrement, consignes, etc.). On comprend vite que l’accueil se résumera à une suite d’étapes robotisées. C’est exactement ce qui se produit à notre arrivée et les limites du système apparaissent immédiatement. Au moindre imprévu, tout s’effondre. Nous devions récupérer les clés dans un boîtier mais une porte censée être ouverte ne l’était pas. Résultat : une heure d’attente avant de pouvoir entrer, avec un impact direct sur notre soirée. Cette situation illustre un problème plus profond : vouloir remplacer l’accueil humain par des procédures automatisées. Accueillir, ce n’est pas transmettre un code, c’est être présent, anticiper, accompagner. L’hospitalité est une relation humaine, pas un protocole.
À cela s’ajoute une accumulation de petits désagréments révélateurs d’un manque d’attention qui ne seraient pas arrivés si l'accueil était plus humain. Aucun n’est grave isolément, mais leur répétition crée un vrai malaise. Par exemple, il nous a fallu 15 minutes pour comprendre comment allumer la cuisinière (la petite manivelle jaune sous la fenêtre pour allumer le gaz). Un simple mot aurait suffi à éviter ça. Trop difficile pour les gérants on dirait.
Un commentaire de 2025 signalait l’absence de tasses à thé : elles manquent toujours. La télécommande n’avait plus de piles, rendant la télévision inutilisable. Le four ne fonctionne pas, alors que les gérants sont au courant...là aussi un petit mot n'aurait rien coûté, mais l'absence coûte. D’autres détails (douche, radiateur…) suivent la même logique.
Ces problèmes seraient parfaitement acceptables s’ils étaient expliqués avec transparence. Mais dans un système déshumanisé, sans attention ni communication, ils deviennent irritants.

Location spettacolare vicina al lungolago con parco privato e parcheggio. La Suite è eccezionale, molto luminosa e silenziosa. Anche le altre camere sono spaziose. Abbiamo apprezzato i letti molto comodi. Stupendo il salotto con affreschi antichi sul soffitto e arredamento moderno. Il terrazzo ha un'incredibile vista sul lago per prendere il sole in tranquillità.

Villa Candela was an elegant apartment in a building showing faded Edwardian grandeur. The view from the terrace was spectacular and the rooms were light and pleasant with historic murals on the ceilings. It was also only 5 minutes walk from the town.
The little balconies and the large sitting room were pretty.
The agents, Emiliano and Francesca, were very helpful when we had a power cut on our first evening - in fact Francesca even came round to help.
The promised fix for the broken oven (which had caused the power cut) never arrived as apparently the owner thought this was not necessary and recommended we use a microwave/ grill combo instead. The was not adequate for our needs - we expected a working oven as part of the deal.
The kitchen in general was lacking in a number of ways - no washing machine, no cups or mugs (apart from tiny espresso ones), no tea towels, no washing up bowl. We did not expect to have to use paper cups for our morning tea/coffee or a plastic food bowl to do manual washing up for glasses etc! This is ironic given the details say there is a 'fully equipped kitchen'.
The single bed in the third bedroom was covered in a child's Mickey Mouse duvet (not shown in the photos) though we had made it clear the son who would be occupying it was a 20 year old...
The bedside lamps were very cheap plastic and not appropriate for the style of the rooms.
On arrival at the station we were horrified to have to walk ten minutes up a very busy road with no pavement to get to the villa. After we arrived texted Emiliano who informed me there was short cut up/down the steps across the road from the villa.
There was no information at all in the villa about what facilities were available at the villa or how to operate them. Nor were there details of the short cut or any local facilities/restaurants etc.
