It was warm and comfortable, once we’d discovered that the boiler hadn’t just been turned off but also turned off at the mains. There was plenty of room for four adults and a child, and it was convenient for the wildlife park.
If a darker carpet had been used on the stairs then the staining from previous wet shoes would have been less apparent; we tried to vacuum it but it remained stained. Although it would sleep six, there were only four dining chairs, three mugs (one of which was chipped), two teaspoons and insufficient table knives. The freezer needed defrosting and, consequently, the drawer fronts were cracked or broken. There was food left in the freezer, and clothes left in wardrobe drawers in one of the bedrooms. The bedroom floors must’ve been swept with the doors open since there was a line of dust behind one. There was paint on the kitchen floor, and over some sockets and switches. There was no bulb in one of the bedside lights. There was dried blood on the bathroom mat, and cigarette butts in the garden. The locked cage on the letterbox obviously hadn’t been emptied for several weeks since it was crammed full, as was the recycling bin.
