満竹華庵 manchikan

We had a fantastic stay at this property. The accommodation was exceptionally clean, spacious, and very comfortable throughout our visit. The welcome gift on arrival was a lovely touch and added to the experience. The location was excellent, with convenient access to public transport, making it easy to explore Kyoto. Despite being well connected, the area was peaceful and quiet, providing a relaxing place to return to after a day of sightseeing.

This was a very spacious accommodation for our family of three adults. It was quintessentially Japanese which attracted it to me in the first instance. There are lovely artistic touches that give it a nice feel. The location is great and not touristy. Great restaurants with awesome prices catering to the local residents. Train station within 9 minutes that had both local and rapid lines. If you arrive or depart from Narita airport this accommodation is right on the train line. The main bathroom has an Onsen style tub and a great shower.

I enjoyed the traditional elements there were aspects of the house that were awkward. All seating was on the floor which after 7 days was hard on the back and I really craved a chair to sit on. There was no washing machine in the property but there were local laundromats, even a reasonably priced old fashioned one with chairs to sit in while waiting for laundry. The kitchen facilities were a little lacking. Lovely pottery dishes but no tea towels, dishwashing detergent or cutlery of any kind. There is a small fridge and a microwave but not a kitchen that you can “cook” in. Having said that we did manage to eat in a fair bit by heating up food in the microwave.

I really enjoyed everything, especially the bath facility.
