The Spotty - Homely Stay in a Former Inn

The Spotty is an old inn located on the eastern edge of Haltwhistle but within an easy walk to the town centre. It's USP is three large bedrooms each with an ensuite shower room. The beds are comfortable and there is plenty of cupboard space. The kitchen has been fully modernised and includes a washing machine and dryer as well as a dishwasher and the usual equipment/utensils/crockery etc. The central heating is efficient and we appreciated it on some wet August days. The owner, Linda, lives next door and was very helpful. Haltwhistle is handy for the forts on Hadrian's Wall but it also has a railway station on the Carlisle - Newcastle line. We travelled to Durham one day - it was an easy journey, changing at Newcastle. The Spotty doesn't have an electric car charging point but we used a reasonably priced Fuuse charger at a nearby garage.

We were happy with everything but the decor, apart from the kitchen, is a little old fashioned. There are a lot of steps that some people may find a drawback.

Very convenient location. We were on public transport. The AD122 bus all along Hadrian's Wall stops just a couple of minutes from the cottage. It was a particularly comfortable cottage - gorgeous rooms, wonderful views from all the upstairs rooms. Very nice hostess. Local people were friendly and helpful. There is a fantastic food shop in the market square and other good amenities.
