Absolutely beautiful Riad with beautiful people running it.

There was nothing negative.

Nous avons séjourné au Riad JAMAL à Fès pendant les vacances de fin d’année et l’expérience a été tout simplement exceptionnelle. Jamal et sa femme sont des hôtes remarquables, d’une gentillesse et d’un sens de l’accueil rares. Après trois premières nuits passées dans leur riad, nous avions une réservation dans un autre établissement qui s’est révélée très décevante. Malgré la haute saison et les contraintes que cela implique, Jamal a réussi à nous trouver une solution pour revenir séjourner dans son riad, sans jamais profiter de notre situation, notamment sur le plan tarifaire – une élégance qui mérite d’être soulignée. Au fil des jours, une relation très amicale s’est installée, au point que nous avons décidé de lui attribuer le prix très officiel (et totalement subjectif 😄) du “High Level de la personnalité et du riad” – un titre qu’il mérite haut la main, même s’il n’existe que dans notre palmarès personnel ! Et ce “high level” ne s’arrête pas au riad : toutes ses recommandations étaient excellentes. Que ce soit pour les visites, les adresses à découvrir ou les conseils pratiques, tout était pertinent et de grande qualité. Les chauffeurs qu’il nous a proposés étaient également irréprochables : ponctuels, fiables, très professionnels, et avec un vrai sens du service — bref, du “high level” jusqu’au bout. Le confort est irréprochable, les repas absolument délicieux, et la décoration du riad est magnifique, authentique et raffinée. Sa situation, en bordure de la médina, est un choix idéal pour profiter pleinement de Fès tout en restant au calme. Une adresse que nous recommandons sans la moindre hésitation, et où nous reviendrons avec grand plaisir.

Stunning building with beautiful architectural details and very clean. The staff was very welcoming. -The Riad has a nice air condition system, it would be helpful to have an air diverter so the cold air did not blow directly at your head all night but it did keep the room cool. Please note my comments are to be helpful because this information would have been beneficial to us prior to our stay.

-This Riad is not for the elderly or even adults with slight mobility issues due to its narrow winding steep stairs to the rooms and the lack of assistance by either luggage elevator or physical help in getting your luggage and belongings to your room. The room photographs on booking.com need to be updated to clearly mark the type of room the photo is showing. We were quite shocked about the size of our rooms ( 2 separate rooms) though the bed descriptions were accurate, they looked nothing like the pictures. Two of us found it difficult to move about the room at the same time nor were we able to open our luggage due to lack of space on the floor. Nowhere on booking.com did it warn about the steps or that the photographs were only of the suites and not a regular room they offer to book. -Riad's location is not close to the souks or major sights- 45 minute walk or taxi ride away. Not many restaurants or markets close by. We were offered help with a restaurant a cab ride away, but not help to get the cab to take there, after 30+ minutes of trying, we walked a difficult road to an alternative we could see at the top of a hill nearby. -We found communicating difficult and though the young women helping Jamal spoke English, the translation of needs between us was not easily understood. -The breakfast was average - breads and a baked egg, we would have liked yogurt or fruit and more coffee (only one cup offered). Our last morning we had asked for an 8am breakfast due to catching a train, but it was forgotten and by the time it was ready we had to leave. -Rooms are sparse - no glasses or no coffee making in the room; the ability to get or make some tea or coffee somewhere in the facility would have been nice. -Larger bath towels would be helpful, the towels were the size of a hand towel and very thin. Beds very, very hard. Unfortunately we didn’t find the Riad to live up to most of the reviews.
