Clara - Modern Loft Sorbonne Notre-Dame Historic

You simply cannot beat the location of this one. In the historic Latin quarter that has had the same buzz for decades. Given that, the apartment was surprisingly quiet, with a court yard that provided solace in a busy area. As a family of 4, with 2 young children, we enjoyed both the location and the apartment. After reading a few unfair reviews, we were concerned, but we were reassured by Maikel (who is extremely responsive) and the apartment was absolutely fine. Any ‘Paris smell’ was very minor, compared to others we have experienced, and the original wall and beams gave the place nice character.

Perhaps it was a little pricey, given it is a small apartment. But it was Paris in July. It was warm (in the middle of a heat wave), but the apartment provided an AC unit and two fans to help.

The location was central. The metro (and RER) station next to the apartment (2 minute walk) was literally the stop you would normally use for Notre Dame, La Sainte Chapelle, and the Latin Quarter. Especially with kids (who could only handle so much in terms of planned and timed activities, who often need to go to the bathroom more regularly, which is hard in Paris, which has less general access to toilets), this allowed us to come and go as we pleased, to change plans, to rest during the heat of the day and watch a movie. The beds worked for our family, and the kitchen had a decent amount of equipment--we could make coffee, breakfast, and a number of random lunches/dinners. The courtyard was generally quiet, despite being in a central tourist hotspot. Staff was helpful and attentive!

While it worked for our family, this time, in the future we'll be staying further out into a regular Parisian neighborhood. Even 4 more blocks south would have put us around a different restaurant crowd, local bakery, etc. In order to escape all the competing restaurants and tourist swarm, we had to walk farther afield to find a simple neighborhood place. Given the short time we were there and our site-seeing plans (and how last-minute we looked for hotels), this worked well. It was a pretty small space overall. While it can accommodate 4 people, I think it'd be better for people using the loft bed and keeping the couch as a couch as not as a bed. It was generally pretty warm (90-95F during the day), and the air conditioner is a small unit, and there is only one door/window space. Air flow would have helped pull the hot air out, but it's the design of the building and nothing to do about it. There were some great fans we slept with.

Close to the metro station. The location was ok, with supermarkets, fast foods and restaurants close by.

The property was a former basement, with no windows to have the sun light or to air out the room. Bad smell in the room. Very small property, if you unfold the bed you have no space left in the living room. Upstairs in one bed only and you can’t stand up, the roof is not tall enough. The air conditioner is very loudly and bad quality, not very efficient.
