Hippocampo Waterfront Villa

We had a fantastic stay at Hippocampo Villa and would absolutely recommend it. The accommodation is beautiful. The villa is a converted former tannery in Chania’s historic Tabakaria district, which has been wonderfully renovated while retaining its character. Inside, everything is modern and it is fully equipped with everything you could need for a self-catering holiday, including high-end appliances throughout. The pool was amazing and we spent hours in it - our girls absolutely loved it. There is also a lovely sun deck with fantastic sea views and beautiful sunsets. Hara was a wonderful host. She met us personally when we arrived, was always available on WhatsApp if we had a question or needed anything, and came to say goodbye before we left. Maria also does a fantastic job of keeping the villa absolutely spotless. The location worked really well for us. It is an easy 20-minute walk into Chania Old Town and we took taxis to explore some of the more sheltered bays around 25-30 minutes away. We particularly recommend Marathi and Stavros (albeit check reviews for umbrella costs). We were fortunate to meet a local taxi driver, Kostas Katsoulakis, when we arrived. He helped us get around throughout our holiday, including trips to beaches and into Chania Town when our daughters were tired - he could not have been more charming, helpful or accommodating. Location was great, close enough to walk into town, but in a quiet location. Host Hara was amazing, she gave great recommendations and was always available for questions. House was well built, new, clean, secure. Would definitely stay here again. We loved it!

Stunning location

The arrival breakfast was lovely and welcoming. The hostess was always contactable and at hand to make your stay enjoyable Location was lovely, depending on what you are looking for. Nice and peaceful with beautiful surrounding sea views. It was a bit of a walk into the port, however the taxi service in the area is good. The port it self is well worth the visit with plenty of bars, restaurants, shops etc. There are a few places easy walking distance from the villa which serve good food and are very welcoming, worth visiting.

In the accommodation the steps to the upper sun terrace are quite steep for younger children and the elderly. The beach directly outside the villa is rocky, however there is access into the sea via the beach.
