杜人舎 Morito-Sha

Excellent location in a very quiet area. Very old building where you could open windows and sleep with fresh air, woken up by birds (or rather the Buddhist’s monastery bells at 6am every morning). Minimalist furnishings and amenities but everything is functional, hygien supplies, tea and coffee in common area, and bottled water in the room.

Low height doorways. My husband is quite tall and he kept forgetting to bow when entering doorways. The rooms are upstairs, and the massive wooden staircase is very steep, with quite high steps. Lugging suitcases downstairs is dangerous. And the leather slippers provided are also slippery.

What a wonderful place! I am very happy that I was able to spend two nights at Morito-Sha. I felt comfortable there from the moment I arrived. The room is very minimalist and elegant. It is worth noting that you have access to a private bathroom, while the toilets are shared. However, I can assure you that they are extremely clean so there is absolutely no issue with that. I would like to thank the staff for their warm and welcoming hospitality. In particular, the young woman (I’m sorry, I didn’t catch her name) who helped me carry my suitcase to the bus stop, as well as the lady who speaks French and kindly prepared a quick breakfast for me to take on the bus because I didn’t have time to eat before leaving. Speaking of the bus, there is a bus stop only a 5 min walk from the property. From there, you can easily visit the beautiful villages of Ainokura and Suganuma (less touristy than Shirakawa-go, but just as beautiful!). I hope to come back one day. Thank you! ❤️
