Region: Littered with rural villages, half-timbered buildings and heritage sites, with links to the neighbouring cities of Manchester and Liverpool, Cheshire offers picturesque landscape scenery in North West England.

Town: The village of Bunbury lies at the western edge of the Cheshire Plain some 3 miles from Tarporley and 12 miles southeast of the city of Chester. Little is known of its history prior to the Norman conquest but it is generally accepted that the name is of Saxon origin and it is thought that there was a Christian place of worship on the site of the present parish church long before 1066. Early references to the settlement call it Bunan byrig, the stronghold of Buna. The village today has a supermarket, three pubs and the striking St Boniface Church which is recorded in the National Heritage List of England as a designated Grade I listed building. Eight miles away lies the popular market town of Nantwich, home to regular markets throughout the week and monthly farmer’s market showcasing the best of produce from the local area, whilst there are also many events throughout the year including The Jazz and Blues Music Festival at Easter and the famous Cheese Awards in July. Further afield lies the historic, walled city of Chester, filled with a range of independent shops and welcoming eateries catering for all taste buds. Make memories in the North West from Bunbury.

Disappointing Xmas stay - cottage is quaint & in a lovely rural location - beds are comfortable, shower was good. Stunning views at the back, spoiled slightly by the tarpaulin covered Romany caravan in garden.Unfortunately, our arrival was not welcoming - we had asked, so knew there would be no Xmas decorations, despite us paying a premium for Xmas week.Cottage was only 11 deg C on arrival mid-evening, no logs inside for the wood-burner, and just 6 matches. The kitchen was not well-equipped for cooking, just saucepans, frying pan, colander, jug & 3/4 utensils. Also very little work surface space. We were only left 2 dish-washer tablets and a tiny amount of washing up liquid for a 7-night stay (though 2 cupboards had an array of cleaning equipment). The dining area is directly at the bottom of the stairs, so cramped & awkward and the twin bedroom layout requires you to climb over a bed to get to the chest of drawers. We would not recommend this cottage to anybody with mobility issues (it is an old cottage, so the stairs are steep and narrow), or to anybody with young children (the twin bedroom and living room roller blinds have unsecured looped blind cords and furniture directly in front of them). It was icy during our stay - decking & steps at back were very slippery, with no salt to put on them. The front door couldn’t be used as the sofa is in the way. Sadly, not what we had hoped for, but many of our concerns could be easily rectified.
