About this hotel
The front door of this gorgeous countryside house opens right out to its own private jetty extending out onto the lake – perfect for those avid paddleboarders, Lilo sunbathers or even just a little refreshing dip to cool off in the sunshine. The lake-facing outdoor area features a BBQ with an outdoor dining setup and private garden for the whole family to enjoy after a long day out in the hills. With so much space while offering a comfortable home for everyone to chill and be together, Hammerhole is a true favourite for our returning guests and newcomers alike. From the cottage, it’s just a 20-minute walk to the Estate’s central courtyard.

The house was ideal for grandparents with the family ( 6 adults and 4 children) and even had a downstairs room with ensuite so all the family could be upstairs and we could be quieter downstairs. The location was beautiful on the lake but would advise a really big shop in Windermere before coming because it is on the less populated side of the lake. We used Hawkshead for extra milk and bread and had a super time at the Chocolate factory there.
A couple of days there we needed to use the washing machine and it was not spinning. I phoned, maintenance came, reported it broken and I was informed a new one would be installed the next morning which happened. That was excellent service.
The pots and cooking equipment are large so easy to cater for 10 and enough seating. Cot and highchair provided but we did bring our own stairgates. The plumbing was very good with plenty of hot water and there is a shower on the ground floor to use after being in the lake, hot tub or after a muddy cycle. It is worth remembering you need to use the car to use the swimming pool and games room on the estate unless you fancy a walk or cycle up a very steep hill.
I would recommend Hammerhole.

Great for big group. Price considered good per person. Decent amount of wood for burning. Enjoyed log burner. Beds very comfortable. Sitting room cozy and enough sears for all.
Drainage in some shower trays blocked. We had to put unblocker down.
Hot tub needs flushing through its filters as it smelt unpleasant after 24 hours.
Better knives, coffee maker.
Fridge in utility not cold enough.

We had a great time. My only comment would be that you might consider fitting a hook with a rope or chain across the top of the track leading down from the road to the property. While we were there, quite a lot of people parked up at the top despite the 'private parking' sign, some walked down thinking it was public access to the lake, and one drove down his van down to make an enquiry!

Amazing location.
Although signage directing to the cottage could benefit from being clearer.
We attended as a three generation family of 9 for a belated family birthday celebration.
The cottage was clean and felt very homely and welcoming with a well equipped kitchen that included 2 ovens and 2 microwave ovens.
The bedrooms were well proportioned, with comfortable beds and ample bathrooms.
Although the living area felt quite snug for a group of 9, particularly when the whole family were together.
We even took advantage of using the hot tub, even though it wasn't the sunniest weekend.
We were allowed a later check out (thanks to Keira) which proved to be an essential criteria for our family.
Despite the rain we had a wonderful time at the cottage with amazing views and cant wait to return!
