Good Shepard Homestay

Firstly, I will be open and transparent to say that we actually did not get to complete our stay. We were scheduled to stay there for two nights but we needed to leave a day early due to an emergency. That being said, we did outstanding hospitality and services from Jacob (the host), and got to experience a clean room and a very comfortable bed. These are the reasons for the 10 out of 10 rating. Our flight coming into Los Angeles was delayed by more than an hour so we did not arrive at the accommodation till 1am. Ordinarily, as I understand, their cut-off time for checking in is 12:30am but Jacob kept in communication with us and waited for us in front of the house as we arrived. He gave us a tour of the house, gave us a welcome amenity kit, and throughout the interaction he was super personable, pleasant, friendly, and professional. I travel all over the world and have stayed in various types of accommodation in and around LA but unfortunately it is very rare to get that kind of friendly, personable, hospitality in this town especially within this price range. A HUGE added bonus was that the bed is super comfortable with a high quality mattress, again, something that you don't usually get within this price range. We are sad that we did not get to experience the kitchen but it looked to us that it was clean and well-equipped. I told Jacob that we are definitely coming back next time we stay in LA. It is highly recommended; definitely gives you more bang for your buck.

Really did not stay long enough to comment. If you are looking to stay in a walkable neighborhood with good access to decent grocery stores, this place may not be what you are looking for. Then again, I am speaking as a person without a vehicle. If you have your own vehicle, this is not an issue.

I knew I was sharing the apartment with others but I was surprised when I got up in the morning there were 4 or 5 others in the kitchen/living room and one sleeping on the couch.

There weren't any family-type restaurants within walking distance. You would have to drive.

Personally greeted by owner and shown around the property. He was very attentive and quick to respond when I had a question. Very clean and comfortable bed. Perfect location for what I needed. Private parking behind the house was an awesome bonus. Would visit again!

The common kitchen was nice and well stocked with coffee items, dishes, and appliances. The room and bathroom were clean.

I didn’t get any arrival instructions so I had to search around on the app for any way to communicate with someone at the property. Initially, our bathroom had no toilet paper. When I reached out to the host, he never got back to me so I had to search the house myself for a roll of toilet paper. The host let us know that they turn the air conditioner off at night and advised us to open the windows in our room. One of the windows did not have a screen so we left that one close. The other window had a screen so we opened that to cool the room at night. Directly behind the property and our room lives a rooster. He was up crowing before dawn and for the rest of the day. The first night we were there the neighbors directly behind the property were setting off fireworks. The second night, on the same block behind the property, there was an enormous party, complete with very loud music, going on well past midnight. Although I understand and appreciate the wildness of the Los Angeles area, it would have been nice to be able to close the window in order to buffer the noises a little bit. If we had, the temperature would have been uncomfortably hot.
