Over the past few years, this has been my base for Eifelsteig stages and other hikes. It is a beautiful and historic monastery complex; a truly special atmosphere where hotel comfort, an active monastic community and spiritual retreats blend harmoniously. The rooms are comfortable, and there is a range of options, so you can also opt for a simpler and more affordable room. The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is excellent and fresh; what makes it special is that it’s served in the former monastery refectory. Dinner is also available there, though it’s simpler and depends on what’s on the menu (there’s a restaurant next to the monastery, but you need to book well in advance for weekends and public holidays, or else try your luck for a free spot on the outdoor terrace). There is also a nice monastery shop where you can get Kaffee und Kuchen during the day. The monastery basilica is beautiful, and I was lucky enough to catch a wonderful organ concert during my recent stay. The location of the monastery complex is also special, on a hillside, surrounded by fields and woods. It is very peaceful; in the evening, all you can hear are the owls in the woods.
The complex and hotel are usually full and busy during public holidays and the annual Hermann-Josef-Fest (around Whitsun). If you wish to avoid this, it is best to book the hotel on other days.

It is a very beautiful place in a great location for peace. A lovely establishment, spotlessly clean with a high trust clientele.
The only hiccup I had was when I left on Sunday to go to the train station. The lady at reception said she would ring for the bus and confirm pick-up at the bus station across the road. They confirmed pick-up, but I was dubious about taking a bus, especially on a Sunday. I went with the flow, but the bus never turned up after I waited an hour, and I missed my train to Cologne. I did get the next train but lost my fare for the missed train. Please don't get me wrong, the lady on reception was only helping me out, but don't bank on a bus turning up. It is best to get a taxi.

It is a particularly atmospheric location with very friendly, happy staff. It is a monastery and also breathes that atmosphere. The refektorium (speize raum) somehow gives a feeling how it must have been centuries ago. The single rooms are simple but have everything you need. Do expect extra luxury.
Well… if there is one thing that could be improved, it is the coffee machine. But it is not en deal breaker and really compensated well by the food and breakfast!!

The Kloster was absolutely was an absolutely fascinating place to stay! Everything was in one place and the surroundings couldn't have been more beautiful.
The beds were very hard; based on reviews I had expected a comfortable Boxspring bed, but there wasn't one in my room. Based in the pictures and description, I had also expected to stay in the grounds, but we were put in a guesthouse outside the gate overlooking the road that was quite noisy.
