About this cottage rental
NOTE: CHANGEOVER DAY is MONDAY!
"SOUTHERN EXPOSURE" is rented mostly to long-timers who return every year...so only two VRBO reviews. It is a very special property....a true gem! Returning guests have first refusal on their weeks for the next year. A two-week minimum is required until mid-February when any remaining weeks during the summer (approximately June 1 - October 15) will be rented as single weeks.

One mile south of the lovely village of Damariscotta (charming shops, fine dining and cafes, book store, community movie theater) is a private road leading into Cottage Point, a quaint settlement on the saltwater/tidal Damariscotta River that evokes neighborhoods of yesteryear.
The red cottage, not visible from the winding road, perches high above Huston Cove and overlooks Hog Island, the home to a nesting pair of bald eagles! Hummingbirds abound at the feeders overlooking the cove. The garden has plantings of hydrangeas, lilacs, rhododendrons, and perennials. Swim or kayak from the private dock. The water is pleasant for swimming in Huston Cove!
Built in 1941, this cottage is a charmer with comfortable furnishings (firm mattresses and 100% cotton sheets) and warm pine paneling! Works by local artists and longtime renters adorn the walls. It is perfect for a quiet, secluded, and private relaxing getaway. There are fantastic water views from the wrap-around deck, living room, kitchen, and master bedroom. The kitchen is well equipped for those who want to cook and, of course, there is a lobster pot! There is a fabulous view as you wash dishes. An outdoor shower is discretely hidden at the back of the cottage.
The cottage is comfortable but not fussy, simple but not rustic. Your time at Southern Exposure is focused on each other, food, and the setting.
Town and grocery stores are five minutes away. Location, location, location! So private, yet close to everything.
No smokers. No pets...no exceptions, no matter how perfect and adorable.

My wife and I stayed at Southern Exposure (SE) for 2 weeks in late June. It was very peaceful with plenty of local activities. We have stayed at many VRBOs over the years, and Ann (owner and host) is the best we’ve ever had: her communication was exceptional, providing an entire booklet of useful information to us before our stay; she personally welcomed us; and she made sure we had an enjoyable stay.SE is a very cozy cottage and has all the basic needs. What is truly captivating is the view from the back porch. We spent most afternoons there, and aside from numerous seabirds saw jellyfish, horseshoe crabs and a seal. The difference between high and low tides is remarkable (10 feet). There are also lots of hummingbirds that visit the feeders Ann has put out for them.

Quintessential waterfront cottage with perfect deck overlooking the river, and dock for swimming and kayaking. Immaculate and cozy interior. Also so close to Damariscotta and great restaurants.Ann is the perfect host - nearby if you need anything and ready with excellent recommendations.We’re ready to go back next year!
