I’ve used Booking.com for 10 years and have never written a review before, but this family and accommodation deserve every one of their 10/10 stars and more. If you’re visiting Wilpattu, stay here. It was the highlight of our time in Sri Lanka. The accommodation was spotless, comfortable, and set right beside a beautiful lake you can visit on your own at the entrance to the National Park, where you can swim and spot wildlife including hornbills and many other birds, elephants, crocodiles, and deer. Leel organised and guided our safari himself with incredible knowledge and care. As a local who quite literally lives in the backyard of the National Park, he helped us find amazing wildlife, and knew all the spots to find water buffalo, leopards, elephants, and even a sloth bear. Given the proximity, we were literally first into the Park in the morning. Organise your safari with them directly for an affordable and excellent experience. The food prepared by Leel’s wife was absolutely delicious and incredibly generous. Their son speaks excellent English and is a total delight. We were welcomed with such genuine warmth and kindness that we left feeling like friends rather than guests. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for an unforgettable stay and we will cherish these memories for years to come!

It’s a real shame we can’t take the family, and the Wilpattu Mookalan Resort and Safari back to Australia with us.

This homestay was so lovely and the family that run it will go above and beyond. True Sri Lankan hospitality. Amazing home cooked meals for breakfast, lunch & dinner & meals and snacks for our safari. So much food, we could never eat it all. Leel took us on the full day safari and drove us to every spot in the park to find animals, we spotted Leopard, elephant, crocodile, golden jackel, water buffalo, deer, monkeys, mongoose, lots of beautiful birds, even when we had to race for time to get out of the park, he drove like a F1 driver to get us to see the Leopard,. We made it to the exit gate with 4 mins to spare, covered in dust from head to toe.🤣😂😅 It was an amazing experience. Thank you Leel and to your beautiful wife for her delicious cooking and to your son for his fantastic, prompt communication via whatsapp. We had such a memorable stay.

Our daughter would say the mosquito's, but hey they love her any country we go.

Place is very close to the entrance. Run by a very helpful family!
