About this house rental
Ours is less of a house and more of a home.
A very loved home full of personal touches and individual features, rustic parts, imperfections and homeliness/cosiness. Above all, we strive to provide you with a sparkling clean place that for the days you are with us will make you feel like you’ve lived here forever. 20 years of love and memories have gone into this home and we hope you enjoy sharing our story and becoming part of our family.
We hope and expect you to treat our home as you would your own, use everything you see and find on the shelves and in the cupboards and let us know straight away if there is anything, however small, that you feel will make your stay less than a five star one.
We can't wait to welcome you to our lovely, characterful 6 bedroom home for 12 people. The pool is shared with two small apartments and a studio next door to the house: if you would be interested in renting one or more of them for your friends or family to join you during your stay, do please enquire! We recommend you get in touch with us at the time of reservation to double check the pool is open during your stay.
La Rochelle is the most attractive city on the West Coast of France. The Charente Maritime area enjoys a 'micro-climate' of temperatures similar to those on the South Coast of France, and the town centre is packed with markets, restaurants, historic architecture and summer attractions as well as a popular beach. Our location is also a stone's throw - a short bike or bus ride - from the stunning Ile de Re with its great walks and bike rides, and beaches reminiscent of the Caribbean. New shopping centre with supermarkets, bakeries and a range of other shops just 5 minutes' walk away. New bio organic food shop right across the road.
The house is 20 mins leisurely walk from the stunning city centre, and 2 mins from local shops and cafes. Parking. Attractive private garden + brick-built barbecue. Living/dining room 30m2 with mezzanine, WIFI, TV, DVD, HIFI. The house (approx 150m2) is in very pleasant surroundings, and is a welcoming base from which to explore this thriving and beautiful town without the hefty hotel charges. It can comfortably sleep 8 people and we provide travel cots/ high chairs for the younger members of the family. there is a children's room with ample toys/ games and a trampoline in the garden. The modern kitchen is extremely well equipped and the entertainments include a wide selection of CDs. Books and DVDs. La Rochelle is the most attractive city on the West Coast of France. The Charente Maritime area enjoys a 'micro-climate' of temperatures similar to those on the South Coast of France.
Linen and towels provided.
The bedrooms consist of 4 with double beds, and 2 with a choice of doubles or two singles (Bedrooms 3 and 4 have beds that can be set up as one large double, or two singles. We will set both of these rooms up with two single beds for your stay unless you contact us in advance of your arrival to request to have them as double rooms.)
Bus lines 11 (https://yelo.agglo-larochelle.fr/bus/lignes-horaires/-/horaires-bus/ligne/periode-scolaire/23706) and 6 (https://yelo.agglo-larochelle.fr/bus/lignes-horaires/-/horaires-bus/ligne/periode-scolaire/23702) stop directly next to the Residence. It takes 5 minutes to get to the Place de Verdun in the centre of La Rochelle (it takes about 20 minutes by foot for the same trip). The bus stop is "La Vallée". For cycle paths, they exist everywhere in La Rochelle. Here is a map of the bike trails on which I marked the location of our Residence with a small red star. Please note that although cleaning is included in the overall price you will pay for your rental, we assume that cleaning will consist of a maximum of two hours for apartments (four hours for a full house) of cleaning, polishing and disinfecting surfaces, hoovering regular dust and ensuring the bathroom and kitchen are cleaned to a high standard. Where linen is included as part of the rental agreement, cleaning also includes the laundering of linen and towels. We hope that our guests will leave the property in a reasonable state, as they found it, but if our cleaners do encounter a considerable level of extra cleaning work to do, such as unwashed dishes, food or other rubbish such as nappies which have not been disposed of into the outside bins, stains from spilt substances, and so on, we do reserve the right to make an extra cleaning charge per hour of excess cleaning required.

The property was clean well kept and everything worked. Good pool.. also very clean. It is a longer walk into town than we expected about 25 minutes ; although we diidnt mind that , some people might. It is very quiet and although the pool is shared we had It to ourselves most of the time. It might be busier in high summer. The owners were very helpful and responsive to any questions. We enjoyed our stay.

We liked the BBQ area (plane spotting) and the Swimming Pool. Easy walk into La Rochelle. Cycles recommended for getting around with some good cycle paths.
Internet was intermittent but not the owners fault. Electrics tripped out in the night when it rained (there was a switch covered up which if had been switched off would have prevented the problem - so a known problem not sorted) - I suspect water getting in outside lights maybe?
In summary this is a great base for a holiday in La Rochelle and we had an excellent break.
