I spent a few days here with my two dogs. The location of the retreat was beautiful, with a stream running down one side of the camp area. It was secure enough to let my dogs roam freely, although I did have to use some chairs to block the entrance and a gap in the undergrowth on one side. It would be useful to have something available to block the entrance gateway. There was a separate parking area joined to a large pond, next to the retreat site, and it was only a very short walk between the car and the retreat, which has a stone path for most of the way. The ground conditions were fine when I visited, and I did not need wellies, although this was following quite a long, dry spell. The cabin is very nice inside, with a large, comfy (though a bit creaky) bed, a small amount of storage places next to the bed, a stand at the end of the bed and a glass-topped table with 2 chairs. There is no electricity in the cabin, but there are several battery operated lights. Don't forget to bring a powerbank to charge your phone etc! Not that you'll need to use your phone much as there's no signal at the camp area, but I was able to get reception by walking up the farm track to the site entrance (but I definitely see this as a benefit!). It was quite dark around at night, especially as the battery powered lights were quite dim and one had run out of batteries, but I had brought a head torch, so it wasn't a big issue. The solar powered lights outside were sufficiently bright. The camp area also has a separate, covered cooking and eating area with a sink with running water and all the cooking utensils you could need, a gas barbecue, and a picnic table. There is also a fire pit next to that area. Towards the rear of the site is an eco toilet, but there are also standard toilets in the shower block on the main campsite a short walk away.
There is a 'woodland walk' next to the camp area, but unfortunately I think there's been a few fallen trees that have blocked the path, so it is only a very short walk, ultimately up to a farm track. One of the corners of the cabin is quite exposed next to the 'path' around the cabin and my dog did cut himself slightly on it. It might be beneficial to add some padding to that corner. I used my stay to walk with my dogs around the local area, but unfortunately found that there are very limited facilities like pubs in the local area (the nearest was a 4 mile walk and was only open on Wed, Fri & Sat evenings), and disappointingly a lot of the footpaths on OS Maps were either non-existent or blocked off, so we mostly had to walk along the roads, which are very quiet anyway.

The property was clean and well furnished. The fairy lights were a nice touch. The secluded paddock was a lovely space to spend a couple of days. It was really well maintained with a fresh mow and the hedgerows shaped with many beautiful flowers. The kitchen area was well resourced, the BBQ had a gas bottle and a camping kettle both ready to use. The surrounding woodlands and lake was lovely to explore and the path to the property well maintained and magical through the woods! The shower block (one shower for the site) was very clean and smelt fresh. We actually enjoyed having 0 signal at the property, it’s perfect for a detox and unwind! Hearing the trickling stream as well was a delight. Owners seemed lovely and the communication pre arrival was thoughtful.
It was a bit disappointing to find the woodland swing was broken and the ‘park’ was unusable due to its aged condition. There is a trampoline but not really safe to use. It did also look like an abandoned hideaway site by the lake which was intriguing. Boats on the pond would have been an amazing addition! Didn’t like that we had to buy a bag of wood from the owners as that’s something you’d think was included, and then we worried about having cash. We didn’t find the outdoor toys until we were leaving and having stripped the bed found the box underneath. This is something that could do with a little sign as it’s a thoughtful touch that was wasted. The LED lighting for the property is l sufficient but the toilet light doesn’t work later in the night as the solar doesn’t seem to charge it enough. Take torches! Also the LED lights and tea lights in the cabin were out of battery. :(

Beautiful spot- handy for the NCN47/Celtic trail cycle route. Loved the pond, the design of the hut and the path to it. It has a fairy tale quality to it. Appreciated the very well equipped outdoor kitchen. We also enjoyed the wild strawberries and bilberries in the hedgerows.
it was a shame the footpath along the valley floor has disappeared
