Hanifa Guesthouse

This hotel is a mere 10 minutes walk north of Registan Square. This is a perfect location not only for a visit to Registan, but also to the Bibi Mosque and the Shah-i-Zinda necropolis. If you are not familiar with Samarkand, each one of these 3 attractions is world class. Therefore, the Hanifa is arguably at the best possible location in the city. The hotel is clean and well kept. We slept well. The breakfast was special and a lot more elaborated than at your average hotel in a trip to Central Asia. We had a plate of fruit, a plate of vegetables and another of pastries, plus eggs, etc. Coffee is from the machine. The staff at the reception is GREAT.

So why I'm not giving the Hanifa a perfect rating? Because the rooms are in the small side, bathroom smells can linger for a while, and there is really nothing to do at the hotel. Besides the breakfast room in the second floor, there are no common areas. After all, this is a very small hotel with just a handful of rooms. This wouldn't be an issue for most trips, but Samarkand in summer can be hot and having a selection of things to do when the family withdraws to the rooms at the time when the Sun hits hard matters. This is a structural issue that can't be fixed but it may not matter to most travelers and/or other seasons.

Overall a good experience. The service from Reception was excellent. Location is good. The breakfast is also really good.

The building is relatively simple, nothing fancy. No air conditioning in reception, but the one in the room was working well .

Very good value for money, very calm and clean and most importantly extremely professional and nice staff (spoke all languages you can imagine of).

The layout was good, the staff were helpful and friendly and the breakfast was lovely. Highly recommended and a good location.
